In The Heart Of The Country

A retired couple from Waddington are thrilled with their new kitchen which was designed and fitted by Heart of your Home Kitchens, whose showroom is just a stone’s throw away from Geoff and Rosemary’s lovely cottage in the heart of the village.

They moved into their 200-year-old stone-built home last year knowing that the kitchen needed replacing, as Rosemary recalls: “The kitchen was quite big but very old fashioned. It was an extension with a glass roof and the kitchen units were brown wood, probably from the 1980s.”

As designer Katie Green of Heart of your Home Kitchens is based in Waddington, she was the obvious person to approach: “Katie had already been recommended to us so we went to see her and visited her lovely showroom,” says Rosemary, who had an idea of what style she wanted for her new kitchen.

“I didn’t want it too traditional or too contemporary. I wanted something that wouldn’t date and will still look good in 20 years’ time and that’s exactly what we’ve got.”

Before work started on the kitchen Rosemary’s outside contractors removed the glass ceiling in the extension replacing it with solid slate and a Velux window to let more light into the room.

French doors with glass side panels were installed at one end of the kitchen which leads out onto a cottage garden.

When building work was complete, Katie’s fitters started work on Rosemary and Geoff’s kitchen: “All the fitters were excellent. Because it’s such an old building none of the walls were straight but the joiners got everything spot on, they were amazing.”

Geoff and Rosemary chose cabinets from the Milbourne collection with lower-level units in Sage Green and the higher ones in Porcelain.

Having discussed the layout of the kitchen, Rosemary’s wish-list included a large island at the far end of the room incorporating a wine chiller and seating area.

Katie also incorporated a French style larder unit with cupboards either side and a traditional over the hob shelf.

Advising on lighting and flooring, Katie recommended a lovely feature light over the island with under cabinet lighting and neat ceiling spots. For the flooring, Rosemary opted for beautiful oak effect luxury vinyl tiles which have recently become super popular due to their authentic look and practicality.

Appliances included a dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven and microwave and a five-pan induction hob.

As Rosemary loves cooking, she is thrilled with her new kitchen: “We love entertaining friends so the island is a lovely place to sit around and chat while I’m cooking,” says Rosemary.

“The kitchen is really beautiful. I love it – in fact everyone who visits loves it! I can’t recommend Katie enough. She was constantly popping in or calling on the phone to check that everything was going okay. She was brilliant!”

Speaking about work on Geoff and Rosemary’s delightful cottage kitchen, Katie says: “It was a pleasure to work alongside Rosemary and Geoff and I am delighted that they love their new Heart of your Home Kitchen.”
