IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

TO LEARN

Once a year, a very special day of celebration takes place on campus at Blackburn College – the annual graduation ceremony. One of the main differences about this ceremony to other institutions is the diversity of the graduating students

What may surprise you is that over half of the 1,000 graduating students at the University Centre at Blackburn College are mature learners. Many of them work full or part time jobs and have mortgages and family responsibilities, yet with determination and drive they complete degrees and change their careers and indeed their lives.

Jodie Dunne (28): BA (Hons) Business Accounting
Now: Trainee Accountant at Beever and Struthers Chartered Accountancy
“Something many people don’t realise is that you can fit your studies around working part time. I have two small children and the time commitment and locality of the College worked well with commitments at home. Through the BA (Hons) Business Accounting programme, I did work experience with accountancy firm, Beever and Struthers. This work experience led to a permanent role and a training contract with the company.”

Andrew Richardson (30): BSc (Hons) Computing
Now: Games Developer at D3T
“Completing the degree has really paid off for me – I now earn more money than ever before and have gone on to work in my dream job as a Games Developer for a company that has worked on some of the world’s most critically acclaimed games. I am very proud to have achieved a First Class Honours as I definitely put the time in to my studies. Having a mature outlook meant that I could really focus on doing my very best.”

The University Centre at Blackburn College offers a full range of degree-level courses for adults. Don’t worry about whether you are qualified to study at university as your original education or work experience may be enough, and if not, we have a range of Honours degrees with Foundation Entry, which are ideal if you have been out of formal study for some time.

There are lots of things you can do to start exploring your options including:
• Attend one of our daily Careers and Student Finance Drop-in Sessions – Monday to Friday 11am to 1pm and Thursdays 4pm to 6pm. Call ahead and let us know you are coming 01254 292929.
• Visit: www.blackburn.ac.uk/university for a comprehensive list of the courses available.
