LET’S DO LUNCH

OR EVEN AN EARLY SUPPER

With all the excitement around the launch of the fabulous new rooms and incredible new kitchen with private dining opportunities, one could be forgiven for forgetting the core value of the Freemasons at Wiswell, writes Tedd Walmsley

The Freemasons has always prided itself on having something for everyone, it is inclusive, and the set lunch and early supper menus are some of the best value meals available in the Ribble Valley.

Lunch is served Wednesday to Friday 12 to 2.30pm and on Saturday 12 to 2pm and their early dinner menu is available between 6pm and 7pm Wednesday to Friday. I’m sure that many people may be sceptical on the quantity and quality of this offer when you consider two courses at £20 or three for just £25. But let me reassure you that the same love, passion and quality of ingredients go into the preparation of these menus in the same way as if you were having the best tasting menu Chef Patron has to offer.

Liz and I do enjoy the occasional lunch – a chance to catch up with each other outside of our working environment, or with friends to enjoy some time together in the best of settings that is the Freemasons – a foaming pint of local ale for me and a cold non-alcoholic drink for the designated driver, before being shown to our table.

To be honest I could have chosen any of the starters or main courses as they all sounded fabulous. The food here of course is sublime and with choices made, we were then set for a treat as a selection of scrumptious bite size canapes arrived alongside the Freemasons signature lamb brioche bread and butter. What a delightful start to what was to be a lovely lunch.

Hot soup in August? To be fair the weather hasn’t been at its best in the valley these last few weeks and the English pea and Parmesan soup was perfect for these unseasonable conditions. It’s rare for me to order chicken when eating out but a slow cooked and sticky leg with a crispy thigh, served with tagliatelle, was an excellent choice. With time on our side we decided that a decadent treat was in order – we were to share a lemon meringue pie and a sweet poached peach served in vanilla and caramel sauce. What a way to finish a lunch of exceptional quality at an exceptional price.

If you can take some time out in the next few weeks can I suggest lunch at the Freemasons in the company of friends or a loved one. Kick back and enjoy yourself because as my friends keep telling me it’s later than you think!
