LET’S TAKE A WALK…

This is a short walk at just under two-and-a-half miles but it takes in some lovely scenery in and around Hurst Green and Stonyhurst

Hurst Green – Greengore – Stonyhurst
Distance: 2.41 miles
Time: 1hr 20mins

This relatively short walk offers a variety of scenery including the wooded valley following Dean Brook, sheep pasture around Higher Deer House, a golf course and views of Stonyhurst College. The walk is not all on the flat and there are one or two short steep climbs in the Dean Brook valley.

Off road parking can be found off the main street next to the Bayley Arms. In Hurst Green there is the Bayley Arms and the Shireburn.

Walk up the High Street in Hurst Green. At the entrance to the Stonyhurst Estate turn left along the bridleway to the cottages. The path follows Dean Brook through the wood to a bridge over the brook. Continue uphill and follow the stone wall to meet the farm road just before Greengore. (30 minutes)

Fifty yards before Greengore take the stile on the right. The path leads to a ladder stile. Turn left and walk 50 yards across the field to a second stile. A fairly steep descent leads to the footbridge over Dean Brook.

Carry straight on uphill through the wood and plantation to the stile leading into the field. Walk over the pasture towards Higher Deer House. Find the stile to the right of the double gate and turn right. Walk down the field to the stile found to the right of the bordering wood.

The path continues to the footbridge over the brook and after the adjacent stile into the golf course follow the wire fence uphill. Follow the waymarkers across the golf course, keeping initially to the right of the wooded knoll. (40 minutes)

On leaving the golf course turn right along the road and return to Hurst Green along The Avenue. (10 minutes).
