With a month-long programme of beer-based events, Bowland Beer Hall is a true mecca for those of us that love our cask ales, writes Tedd Walmsley

Boasting one of the longest bars in Britain, Bowland Beer Hall is the flagship tasting venue for our very own Bowland Brewery, with 42 hand pulls and a minimum of 24 individual cask beers available at any one time and a constantly changing range of guest beers. When combined with a bank of kegs, bottles and canned beers, wines and gins it’s certainly got something for everyone.

Throughout October the beer hall is taking it up a notch or two and is launching a true homage to beer with a month-long programme of beer-based events and activities aptly named Octo-beer-fest.

‘Drink It Dry’ on a Monday and Tuesday gives you the chance to sample up to six beers at half price as the pumps get ready for the new beers to arrive.

Why not combine this with the hearty half price burgers for an early weeknight out? It’s a must and of course great value – you can even make a night of it by taking advantage of half price rooms in the Spinning Block Hotel for £52.50 B&B for two, but with limited availability.

Each Wednesday through October sees some great fun and for the competitive like me – a chance to win the beer hall quiz – grab some mates and order some proper grub and enjoy yourselves. They’ve even got a local ghost storyteller in residence to make Halloween go with a bang.

Thursdays look particularly exciting with four ‘Tap Takeovers’ (full details on the website). Carefully chosen, these ticketed events are hugely popular and pre-booking is essential. I’ve got my tickets already for my son and I to enjoy the Q&A and sampling with our friends from Manchester – the famous Cloudwater Brewery. There’s also a Comedy Club on 24th making Thursday a busy and vibrant day to visit Holmes Mill.

Friday sees the ever-popular Engine Room music sessions with a host of talented local artists – if good music, beer and food are your thing then these are nights definitely not to be missed. They are free to attend too.

Friday 4th October is an Oktoberfest classic with steins of foaming lager and Bratwurst all accompanied of course with oom-pah music by the Bavarian Stompers – it’s a real taste of Bavaria. There will also be some interesting beer and food pairing menus across the month.

October really is going to be a month to savour – I’ve given you the highlights but the details on how to book tickets and accommodation are all to be found on the website and their social media platforms.

Have a great time and I hope to see you there!
