LIVELY LONGRIDGE

After many months of preparation Create Longridge 2018 is almost here, writes Olivia Beaty

Who will follow in the winning footsteps of Steve Rostron? We will soon find out as Saturday 14th July is now just around the corner! With 50 artists already registered to take part in Create Longridge 2018, this promises to be an unmissable event!

Longridge boasts beautiful scenery and a rich history, it is the perfect location for this event. The family friendly day welcomes visitors and locals and encourages them to join together and enjoy a summer’s day of art! Local pubs, cafes and bars will offer refreshments and the range of independent shops welcome you to browse at your leisure.

The competition challenges the artists to create a brand new original piece of art from scratch on the day to compete for the first prize of £2,000. The artists will be situated within a three-mile radius of Longridge where visitors can stop and watch them create their piece, whilst enjoying a day in the stunning town of Longridge.

The competitors will have all day to create their artwork and can create their piece in a size, style and media of their choice. At the end judges will decide who will be awarded first, second and third prizes!

A huge thank you to the event’s prize sponsors. Raymond James Investment Services are sponsoring the first prize of £2,000. Grandma Singletons have recently confirmed they will be once again sponsoring the second prize to the value of £1,000 and Hoppy Days Micro Pub is once again sponsoring the third prize of £500.

Why not try the very first ‘Create Ale 2018’ which has been produced by Hoppy Days Micro Pub in collaboration with Crankshaft Brewery? This will be available from cask and bottles from the micropub.

2018 will again see the Exhibition Visitor’s Prize, sponsored by U3A Longridge. After the artists’ work has been judged, the paintings will be displayed for visitors to vote for their favourite. Longridge Gallery will be hosting an exhibition and sale of all the paintings created on the day. This will run from Sunday 15th July and for the week thereafter.

From creative writing to the collaborative textile event there will be many creative activities taking place which you can get involved in. Please visit the website to book your place today!

Come along and enjoy a day of art as well as everything else Longridge has to offer!

There is still time to get involved if you think you have an artistic flair, register online now!
