Major Refurbishment

For 700-Year-Old Country Manor House

The Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa is set inside a beautiful 700-year-old country manor house. It has undergone a major refurbishment over the last 12 months and is ready to welcome visitors old and new, once it is able to fully reopen

Located just off junction 7 of the M65, the Dunkenhalgh Hotel has been operating as a hotel for more than 72 years and became a Mercure hotel in 2007, attracting visitors from Lancashire and beyond over the years for business meetings, weddings, conferences and spa breaks.

With the extensive refurbishment costing £4.5 million, the hotel has now been given a completely fresh new look, while enhancing the historic and existing grandeur of many of its original features, including the impressive staircase, giving it a distinctive new identity.

All of the 175 bedrooms and 14 meeting and event rooms have been upgraded with fresh new décor, along with the bar, restaurant and reception area.

The well-renowned restaurant of the Mercure Dunkenhalgh also has a fresh flavour thanks to the refurbishment project. The Cameo Restaurant has been elegantly decorated to enhance its charm and offer an even more inviting environment. It will also benefit from a new menu later on in the year.

Claire McGlynn is the new sales manager at the hotel, who joins from a background in hotels, says: “The project has been long awaited, but the end result is stunning. Most of the refurbishment was complete before we went into lockdown in March 2020. We decided to stay open to serve key and essential workers throughout, who were the first guests to see our new-look hotel. The final work was carried out as the construction industry was allowed to return to work and fully completed in December 2020.”

While current numbers for weddings are still restricted, the Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa can cater for small intimate gatherings, to hosting 400 people in the function suite when government restrictions allow.

“Social events, such as weddings is where we excel at The Dunk,” says Claire. “We can’t wait to show off the hotel in person, the space is perfect to celebrate any special occasion.”
