MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

Exciting developments will see this inspiring school offer even better facilities this year and break new ground with an elite music scholarship, writes Kate Ford

At the start of the new school term in January, the grounds and historic buildings of Rossall School in Fleetwood were quieter than usual. With Covid-19 restrictions still in place, the only pupils able to attend this leading independent school were children of key workers and a selection of boarders.

Behind the scenes though, the excitement is as fervent as ever. Whilst teachers deliver their universally-acclaimed online lessons to the school’s four to 18-year-olds, work is being done to improve even further its already impressive facilities.

The Nursery and Pre-Preparatory School, which take children from three months to seven years old (up to Year 2) are now housed in a newly renovated building designed specifically to provide a stimulating, welcoming and safe environment for these age groups.

An expanded baby room, new nursery hall and refurbished classrooms, each with direct access to a magnificent outdoor play area and garden, all combine to make this the ideal place to encourage youngsters to learn, develop and play together.

“The children have access to the beach and all the impressive arts and sports facilities on campus, not to mention our own petting farm with its pygmy goats, giant Flemish rabbits and guinea pigs. It’s an outstanding setting,” says Head of Marketing and Communications, Nancy Fielden.

Parents can learn more about the Pre-Prep and Preparatory Schools at a Virtual Open Day on Saturday 10th April. This online event will showcase Rossall’s provision for younger children up to 11 years old. The recent Senior School Open Day can be viewed on the School website.

Once pupils enter the senior school, the opportunities available to them increase further still. From the impressive Performing Arts Studio and state-of-the-art Astronomy Centre to its own Golf Academy and Elite Football Programmes for boys and girls, this is a school which enables pupils to discover what they love and excel therein.

Later this year, Rossall is set to become an All-Steinway School, joining an elite group of educational and musical establishments around the world and reinforcing its commitment to provide the best quality music education. Once it receives its All-Steinway status, every single piano used at the school will be made by this globally-recognised piano manufacturer.

Rossall’s International Piano Academy launches in March and scholarships will be available for musically-gifted pupils, providing the opportunity for them to combine first class music tuition alongside their outstanding academic education, delivered in a dynamic and supportive school community.

Headmaster Jeremy Quartermain comments: “We are proud of our academic record but what sets us apart is that, wherever your child’s interests or talents lie, we encourage them to take full advantage of the facilities and activities on offer in order that they may reach their full potential and get the most out of every day of school life.”
