NATURAL SMILE

Dr Usman Riaz of Renovo Dental explains the benefits of veneers – a natural-looking, long-lasting solution to enhance your smile

Ribble Valley-based Renovo Dental has brought together a team of highly-trained specialists and dental practitioners to offer general dentistry, sedation, orthodontics, implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canal therapy and gum disease treatment all under one roof.

Minimally invasive dentistry is vital to the Renovo Dental team, covering all aspects of cosmetic dentistry from clear braces, composite bonding to life-like ultra-natural porcelain veneers.

Dr Usman Riaz is the go-to guy for creating perfect but natural-looking teeth. Here he explains all about veneers and the things you need to know if you’re considering getting them or replacing existing ones.

What exactly are veneers?
Veneers are wafer-thin covers of ceramic that go over your teeth. They can mask any imperfections such as the teeth colour, shape, or even position. If designed properly, veneers can change your smile to create the desired effect – they can balance out facial asymmetries to achieve an attractive result in each patient. They act and feel like real teeth – they also reflect and refract light like natural teeth.

Does the treatment require tooth removal?
No, not always. In some veneer cases, to optimise the results, 0.3mm of enamel reduction will suffice. This is thinner than your nail plate. We then contour and smooth the enamel to correctly bond the porcelain shell. Our aim in each case is to maximise aesthetics with minimum invasion.

Is it a long treatment process?
The process consists of two main appointments, and you’re done within two weeks. It’s virtually painless and done under local anaesthesia. There are countless hours of behind-the-scenes planning and detailing by the team here to make sure we can deliver a flawless smile.

How long do veneers last?
If done correctly, veneers are as strong as natural teeth. Veneers are long-lasting, strong and they don’t stain. Veneers should last between 15 to 20 years, depending on how you take care of your teeth. Regular hygiene appointments every three to four months are mandatory to maintain healthy gums and oral health.

How easy are veneers to maintain?
We always recommend clients get professional cleaning done every three to four months whilst following a strict at-home care regime. You’re going to want to increase the longevity of your smile, so make sure you get it regularly serviced.

We insist you wear a night guard. The thing that destroys people’s teeth the fastest is grinding and clenching, especially when you get new teeth or veneers. Wearing a night guard minimises the risk of damaging the veneers or the natural opposing teeth.

There has been a huge rise in demand for cosmetic dentistry. What’s the reason for this?
The Zoom effect! With the increased use of video calling, the team here at Renovo Dental has noticed a marked increase in demand for aesthetic dentistry treatments. We are using technologies to communicate with each other more than we ever have. A lot of people have been using Zoom, Instagram and Facetime so people are spending more time looking at themselves. A huge number of clients have mentioned they never really realised how noticeable certain aspects of their smiles were until they had to do video conferencing on a daily basis.

Why choose Renovo Dental?
This is bespoke dentistry at its very best. Everybody here has a specialism that they are dedicated to and have worked very hard to achieve. The team is unique – we are a group of passionate people who have come together with a similar mindset and vision to achieve excellence and we work to our best ability and go above and beyond. There is no special secret to our success. It’s a passion first and foremost.

Renovo Dental treats patients who have been referred by their general dentist as well as self-referral patients.
