NEW HEAD

TO TAKE ON NEW YEAR

A new headmaster is to take up the helm of AKS Lytham Independent School

Staff and pupils at AKS Lytham Independent School are to get a new headmaster at the start of the next academic year. Mr David Harrow has been appointed as headmaster, following an extensive recruitment exercise to find a suitable successor to the current headmaster, Mr Mike Walton, when he steps down in August to take up his new position as Head of Brighton College, Bangkok.

Chris Dickson, chair of the governors, who made the appointment, said: “Throughout the recruitment process, Mr Harrow stood out from a field of excellent candidates, with his vision for the future of AKS in building on its strong academic record and our focus on developing the whole child.”

A highly experienced educator and senior leader, David Harrow joins AKS from Oakham School, a co-educational day and boarding school in Rutland, where he is currently deputy head. He gained a master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Cambridge before starting his career as a mathematics teacher more than 20 years ago.

“The kind of education I want for my own children is one in which they can develop as individuals, exploring their own abilities and identifying their particular passions, becoming confident, rounded people ready to face the challenges and opportunities in the world to come,” said David. So many schools claim to offer this, of course, but I was struck by how this actually manifests at AKS. It is an incredibly exciting school, offering a rich, experiential and life-enhancing education, all within a friendly, supportive and inclusive community and I believe there is a strong alignment between my own values and those of the school.

He added: “I’m looking forward to immersing myself in the community of AKS and working with everyone to build on what has already been achieved under the leadership of Mike Walton and through the dedication of so many people. It is my privilege that I will get to experience this community every day, and my good fortune that my children will benefit from this superb education. Everyone should know about AKS and I am really looking forward to spreading that word.”

David Harrow is scheduled to visit AKS in May to meet staff and parents, as well as spending time with Mike Walton and the leadership team to commence the transition process.
