New Season, New Styles

Colder days and blustery, dark evenings mean it’s time to rethink our style choices. But where to begin?

Luckily, we have Novello on our doorstep. Fishergate’s much-loved independent store which is filled with favourite names and exciting new brands. From tempting teddy-bear coats to knitwear staples, mother and daughter Bridget and Hannah Deuchars and their team have sourced keenly priced items from across Europe to help us dress well this autumn.

“Our new-season finds include unstructured styles from Naya and tailored dresses from Kate Cooper,” says Hannah. “And we continue to feature the popular Masai and Sandwich ranges, alongside the many other labels which our customers love such as Betty Barclay and Olsen.”

The Novello look is on-trend and easy to put together. For example, this season’s animal prints, found in tops and dresses throughout the store, can be paired with an extensive range of trousers from Robell (customers rave over its choice of styles and fabrics). A selection of reasonably-priced jewellery and accessories will add interest to any outfit.

“We have something for everyone, and in every price bracket, but we also recognise that our customers like to look individual, and so we only buy in one of each size to keep things special,” says Bridget.

“We believe everyone can look good and be confident in themselves,” she adds.

Novello fulfils our aspirations for relaxed, but polished, dressing. “People tend to go out in jeans with a great top or jacket,” says Hannah. “Our range of Just White shirts, and tailored blazers from Spanish brand Bariloche can dress up a casual outfit.”

From blazers to coats and a selection to beat the British weather. Practical, yet luxurious, quilted coats from Creenstone hang alongside other winter-proof jackets, those adorable teddy-bear styles and faux fur jackets and gilets. For formal occasions, perhaps a winter wedding, Hannah has chosen wool coats in rich colours by Christina Felix.

Talking of special events, Novello’s range of sophisticated cocktail dresses by Kate Cooper and statement dresses from Joseph Ribkoff will ensure you sparkle throughout the Christmas party season.

Owner Bridget is the fourth generation at the helm of this family store, established in 1914. With daughter Hannah as manager she is dedicated to the Novello traditions of customer care and trusted fashion advice.

“Our amazing staff know our brands so well, and love to help,” says Bridget. “We can order in styles, we keep a range for cruises and winter sun all year round and we also offer an alterations service which is free on items over £75. We like to think of ourselves as your personal shoppers,” she says.
