NOT FORGETTING MITZI!

When part-time staff nurse Glynis Wilson-Mayor decided to extend her kitchen, her daughter-in-law sent her a Facebook link to Waddington-based Heart of Your Home Kitchens.

“I was really impressed with what I saw,” says Glynis, who decided to travel over to the Ribble Valley from her home in Darwen to see Katie Green at her beautiful showroom.

“For the first time I was really excited about a new kitchen. My old kitchen had only been installed five years ago but because I wanted to create a utility room I decided to get something completely new.”

Glynis’ old kitchen was plain white with a wooden top and matching wooden flooring but as soon as she saw the Partridge grey cabinetry in Katie’s showroom at Heart of Your Home Kitchens she set her heart on a grey and white colour palette.

Katie paid Glynis a visit to see how the extension would create more space and to work out a plan for the new utility, which would create space for a washer and second fridge, freeing up much needed cabinet space in the new kitchen.

Initially, Glynis chose Fitzroy painted Shaker-style units with Chicstone worktops in the colour Pegasus – an elegant yet practical combination. However, when she had second thoughts about which handles and worktops to choose Katie suggested they take a trip together to the kitchen manufacturer’s impressive Design Centre in Durham.

“It made a huge difference seeing the kitchens in situ,” recalls Glynis. “In fact, I changed my mind on the choice of handles and worktops. I opted for chrome square handles which are really effective – everyone has commented on them! I also changed my mind to White Mirror quartz worktops and I am so pleased I did!”

“I was also really impressed with Katie’s design system. I could see exactly what my kitchen would look like on the big TV screen at her showroom and if something wasn’t quite working, Katie would tweak it to ensure everything was perfect.”

Glynis, who spent her career as a district nurse had also set her heart on an island unit and wanted a bespoke area for her beloved King Charles Spaniel, Mitzi.

“We came up with the idea of putting the dog bed in the island unit and at first it didn’t seem to be working. But Katie persevered and eventually came up with a great idea of designing a bespoke cabinet. I got a new bed for Mitzi which fits perfectly and she needed no coaxing – she hopped in straight away. Her space is opposite the patio doors so she can see out into the garden. It’s perfect!”

Katie, who liaised with the builders, made various suggestions during the ongoing project which has resulted in a kitchen with plenty of storage.

Glynis also chose a grey Amtico floor, under cupboard lighting as well as six diamante and glass pendant lights over the island.

Thrilled with her new living space, Glynis says: “The way Katie works is fantastic. If I was unsure about anything she would make suggestions and recommendations.”

“The installation went smoothly and I have to say I am absolutely delighted with my new kitchen. Mitzi and I use this room all the time now and it works really well when my grandchildren visit. I love it!”

Commenting on Glynis’ new kitchen, Katie says: “I am a dog owner and lover myself so it was a real pleasure to meet and work alongside Glynis and Mitzi. I am absolutely delighted that they are both so happy with the beautiful new living space I have created for them”
