ON A PAR WITH NO OTHER

For any golf club to survive, it has to, not only offer the best greens, but also to diversify to attract new members. Its 18-hole course is fairly flat but does require the player to think and plot their way round. Water plays its part with seven holes on the back nine affected by it and while the greens are small and elusive, the course still has a reputation for being one of the best kept in the north west.

This year has seen the club invest significantly in a new 14 bay driving range, alongside a superb short game area. The driving range (nine covered and five open air) will provide big hitters with more than 300 yards to test out and improve their skills and the short game areas will enable golfers of all capabilities, high quality practice. What’s even better is that if you don’t have any clubs, and want to give it a try, the club has loan clubs available.

Thanks to support from current members, local firms and sponsorship from eye wear specialist The Spectacle Factory, it has now created a driving range and short game facility which is second to none.

Ashton & Lea celebrated the opening by inviting Preston North End footballer and keen golfer, Paul Gallagher to officially open the new facilities. He tweeted: “Good game of golf this morning, excellent golf course and club. Fantastic people as well. Anyone looking to join a golf club or looking for a driving range to use, I would highly recommend this one.”

The club has been around since 1908 and whilst it might have changed structurally over the years, it still provides the same friendly atmosphere its members have come to love. Furthermore, following the investment and its success as a club, the Lancashire Golfing Union has chosen Ashton & Lea Golf Club to host prestigious competitions such as the Lancashire County Seniors which will take place next year.
