With care for the elderly and those with dementia being at the centre of much debate at the moment, finding good quality care that meets all needs can be difficult.

However, in the heart of Clitheroe is Abbeyfield House, which is leading the way in terms of providing first class, person-centred care.

A not for profit organisation, Abbeyfield House ensure that all residents, regardless of their level of need, are looked after in a professional, friendly environment that is stimulating and vibrant.

Over the past year Abbeyfield has introduced a number of new initiatives that has seen residents become more involved in the community, they have also developed an enhanced programme of activities and have brought all catering in-house.

As in all the activities, residents have the option of joining in – visits from local schoolchildren and nurseries have seen elderly residents joining in lively singing sessions and interacting with youngsters. This initiative has been mutually beneficial and is an ongoing project.

Other activities include accompanied shopping trips into Clitheroe to visit the shops and enjoy a cuppa, while other trips may take resident into the local countryside.

The dedicated, well trained care team at Abbeyfield House, which can accommodate 40 residents in total, provides long, short term and respite care as well as specialist care in the Clitheroe wing, which caters for those with higher levels of need including dementia.

Accommodating 11 residents, there is a higher staff to resident ratio in the Clitheroe wing giving residents and their families, peace of mind that they are being cared for at the highest level.

There is also an extensive new garden planned for the wing providing a safe and secure outdoor area that residents can access.

With a ground-breaking new activity programme to enhance the facilities at Abbeyfield, residents’ feedback is always taken into consideration.

“We all work hard in order to provide the very best for our residents,” explains Chairman of Abbeyfield House Trustees, Janet Taylor.

“I recently enjoyed lunch there and it was fantastic! With the catering in-house, the menu features dishes that use local ingredients wherever possible, which is good.”

“I, like all the other nine trustees, are very visible at Abbeyfield. I am there a lot and we take time to talk to our staff and our residents in order to get their views.”

Whatever level of need, Abbeyfield understands the importance of getting to know their residents and their family, and how best they can keep residents’ independence and dignity.

Totally dedicated to providing the highest level of care, the team at Abbeyfield House can conduct an initial assessment to determine the level of need that is required so you and your family know you are in safe hands.
