Perfect Party Prep

So, the party season is upon us and we all want to look glam, but creating that perfect look doesn’t have to be hard work, writes Tracy Hargreaves

When we are off to a party we want to make sure our beauty regime is on point, so we’ve put together some beauty secrets, with the help of Tracey Andersen from A Bit Gorgeous to help you on your way.

“The key to good make up is less is more,” says Tracey. All too often I see ladies with too much foundation which can often look cakey. It’s about knowing what looks good on you, whilst maintaining a natural look.”

Christmas is all about sparkle and that also transfers to our make-up and there are lots of festive make up products out there. Nyx has superb face and body glitters which can be applied with glitter glue. They are best applied just on the eyelid, or as a little hint dotted at the tear duct for brightening of the overall makeup.

A top tip for ladies with mature skin, Tracey recommends keeping any shimmer shadows to a minimum and only on the lid. Under brow highlighter creates a flattering subtle sheen, but go easy and consider using a cream product such as Tropic cream highlighter, applied with gentle tapping with the middle finger.

Consider investing in some key brushes. Zoeva brushes offer good application at a very reasonable cost and will make all the difference when applying your make up.

Begin makeup application by cleansing, toning and moisturising. Choose foundation based on what kind of feel and finish you want, if you are unsure seek advice from a beauty expert. A great foundation choice for a mature skin is a dewy skin finish. Nars soft glow foundation delivers this superb soft finish, is easy to blend and is worth the investment. If you are happy with your own foundation choice, illuminator creams can be added either with cream foundation or on top of to make the skin look fresh and slightly sparkly.

False lashes can add the finishing touches. If you feel overwhelmed slightly by the idea of it, try half lashes which simply add a little flick from the outer corners only. Falselashes.co.uk have a great selection and frequently offer discounts too. Choose full lashes if desired but preferably ones with very fine bands so as to feel comfortable and look discreet.

If you want nice nails, without paying salon prices, why not try stick on false nails. From as little as £2.99 you can choose from a wide variety of colours, shapes and sizes and are ideal for a one-off party night or some will last up to a few days.

“Beauty definitely starts from within,” adds Tracey. Good core skin care is essential to a healthy glow and even makeup coverage. Night serums are a worthwhile investment, applied under moisturiser to do their magic while you sleep. Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water, particularly if you are drinking lots of alcohol and try and book in for a facial or make up application lesson before the party season begins.”
