Power & Presence
There has been much excitement as two special yearlings have been secured and are set to be trained at stables in the north, writes Highclere’s Jason Fildes
This is a very important time of year with all the major sales virtually completed and I’m delighted to say that there are two special yearlings on their way up to Middleham to be trained here in the north by Karl Burke at Spigot Lodge and Charlie and Mark Johnston at Kingsley Park stables.
The first is a colt by Caravaggio who Harry Herbert described as follows: “Every now and then a yearling appears that simply blows you away with its power and presence. Well, this son of leading second season sire Caravaggio did exactly that. He is a magnificent colt who has all the powerful looks of his impressive Scat Daddy sire line. He moves like a panther. He looks to be a proper summer two-year-old in the making, something his sire has excelled at producing with the brilliant Tenebrism, last year’s Cheveley Park (Gr 1) winner, being a prime example. She went on to win the Prix Jean Prat (Gr 1) as a three-year-old this year.”
We couldn’t believe that we secured him for only 90,000 guineas and he will be trained by Karl Burke in the Rembrandt Syndicate at a cost of £10,450 per share.
Here is Harry’s view of our other new colt: “Do take a close look because any colt blessed with this much power has a proper chance of racing at the highest level. Every day here at Tattersalls, John has been telling me, ‘Buy him Harry – he is definitely one of the best colts in the sale’.”
Kodiac is a sensational stallion and he is also a sire of sires so any son of his that wins at group level is extremely valuable. This is the first foal out of a winning Pivotal mare and with Pivotal being such a great broodmare sire that too stands this fellow in good stead. She is a daughter of the Group 1 winner Lone Rock.
Charlie and Mark Johnston will train him for the Andy Warhol syndicate at a reduced cost of £10,450 plus VAT per share.
I think that this colt is a proper racehorse in the making. I simply love him and both John and Jake Warren fully expect him to be running before Royal Ascot next year in the hope that the old top hat and tails can be dusted off for the big meeting!
