Preston Student Stars In TV Advert

Richard Bulcock plays a staring role in Blackburn University Centre’s new TV advert. The 51-year-old retrained at Blackburn University Centre to become a building surveyor for Cowan & Co Building Consultancy in Euxton

Richard Bulcock who studied the BSc (Hons) Construction (Building Surveying) course shared his positive experience and journey at Blackburn University Centre (which has ultimately led to a step up in his career) to encourage potential students to retrain at the Higher Education provider and ‘reinvent themselves’.

Richard said: “I chose to study my degree at Blackburn University Centre because it is a modern educational establishment and geographically close to where I live. This was ideal as it meant I could condense my course into two days a week and study around my work commitments.

“I felt it was the right time to retrain because my children were older and had left home to go to Universities etc. I had a bit of a lightbulb moment and thought ‘maybe I can do this, maybe I can retrain and get to where I want to be’. Even at my age, I’ve still got a decent career ahead and I wanted to choose the right course to get into the right job.

“I found it so easy to pick up the phone and speak to someone in the Construction department at Blackburn University Centre. They invited me in for a chat and we worked everything out. When I finally got the job I’d trained for it felt great – I was really happy!

He added: “Blackburn University Centre has prepared me for the future by increasing my knowledge in all aspects of Construction including Pathology, Surveying, Contracts, Project Management and Contracts Administration – which are all core skills.”
