PROPER SHOE SHOP

On a mission to breathe new life into Lancashire’s shoe-making industry, LANX recently launched its unique, industrial-style warehouse shop with an Open Weekend

A four-day Open Weekend at LANX shoes’ new warehouse shop in Whalley was a resounding success for founder Marco Vaghetti and his team, who welcomed visitors from far and wide to see their new premises and collection of ‘proper shoes’.

“We enjoy talking to our customers to get their feedback,” explains LANX shoe designer Matt Yates, who trained in Portugal and moved to the Ribble Valley last year to join Marco. “We chat to people at various events and always get some golden nuggets of information that inevitably leads us into developing and evolving the collections.”

“We are always refining our designs. This season tan, as always, is the preferred colour and we have also launched our women’s collection, which is as a direct result to us talking to our customers,” adds Matt who, along with Marco and the team, attends numerous festivals, county shows and artisan markets across the UK spreading the word about LANX.

The new LANX warehouse shop on the Mitton Road Business Park is an industrial-style space that features all the shoe collections displayed on bare-wood walls and on a huge central work bench illuminated by vintage-style pendant lighting.

The vibe is informal and relaxed, where customers can chat to Marco and his passionate team about the shoes, how and where they are made and the history behind the company. LANX is keen to bring back shoe manufacturing to Lancashire: “This is our mission – to invest and create new jobs,” says Marco. He has travelled the world to learn about shoe-making techniques with the intention of bringing back his inspirations to Lancashire to make limited edition shoes.

Since launching in 2018 LANX has enjoyed great success locally, nationally and internationally with online orders coming from around the world. Their ‘business-casual’ style is hugely popular and has attracted a loyal following. Their shoes are worn by players and staff from local sports teams, Sale Sharks, Burnley FC and Lancashire Cricket.

The shoes are designed by Matt and Marco here in the Ribble Valley and are manufactured at LANX’s partner factory in Rossendale – the historic heart of Lancashire shoe-making, as Marco explains: “We are proud to be making shoes in Rossendale, supporting local Lancashire suppliers and creating new jobs in the Ribble Valley. When you wear LANX shoes you should know – our footwear is quality, prepare for an adventure!”
