QUALITY IN EVERYTHING THEY DO

Success driven by professionalism and determination is the basis of the story so far for prestigious timber suppliers Wyder Engineered Timber Systems, writes Gail Bailey. Photography: Vanessa Fry

Based near Preston, Wyder Timber began their success story in 2008 when Sales Director David Williams, Managing Director David Paterson and his son Daniel, Operations Director, saw a gap in the market they could fill, and have continued to grow ever since.

“We started with one client in 2008 and over the years have grown steadily. From the outset, we invested in our manufacturing facility with fully automated cutting and in the last 18 months we have added to this with investment in roof truss manufacture equipment, ensuring our clients’ needs are met while keeping to the high standards they expect,” David explains.

The company, who are arguably the largest engineered timber supplier within the local area, offer a comprehensive and first-class design, manufacture and supply service for all structural floor and timber frame projects. Focusing on all aspects within the construction industry, they specialise in panel manufacture for timber frame and commercial projects, engineered timber, bespoke timber solutions and self-build.

Wyder’s customers include mid to large house builders and they continue to work with household names such as Story Homes, Morris Homes and Bellway Homes – the latter have been clients for over a decade. “We regularly get repeat business,” David explains. “We pride ourselves in focusing on our strengths and operating at a high level professionally. We re-invest our profits into our buildings and our growth, with our staff at the core of everything we do.”

Employing 46 and currently in the process of expanding due to demand, most employees stay with the company from day one and are loyal to maintaining the high standards, which are the foundation of Wyder Timber. The company have even recently installed a gym on site for staff to use.

It isn’t only house builders that Wyder work for – one of the most prestigious projects they have worked on was the roof panels for the 2013 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow: “That was probably one of the most exciting jobs we have done,” David says. “We won the contract through personal recommendation due to our professional approach and work ethic, and we continue to ensure that is a thread that runs through every project we do. Whether it is small or large scale, our commitment to doing our very best is key.”

Specialising also in multi-rise buildings, Wyder were involved in the design and build of student accommodation for Cambridge University Campus in 2017, along with other multi-rise buildings for hotel chains such as Premier Inn and Travelodge. “Our expert staff, who between them have over 50 years’ experience, are able to offer a complete service,” David says. “We estimate and design, manufacture, supply and install, making sure all elements of the build are correct and fitted to the highest standards.”

The company’s latest project is with Countryside Properties, having already been awarded two large projects this year, they continue to build on their success and are proving they really are a first-class choice: “We focus on continuing to do what we do, and of course make sure we do it consistently well,” concludes David.
