Save The Date!

For those who love live music and great entertainment, then save the dates of 19/20 May for Penwortham Live! Writes Tracy Hargreaves

A range of performances, activities and attractions are all being lined up for a cracking weekend in May, using venues all around Penwortham.

The first Penwortham Live! was a huge hit in April 2013, then again in March 2014 and May 2015, with a wider range of activities and performances, to suit all ages and tastes. Now it’s even bigger and better with an array of top quality local and north west artists to suits all ages and tastes, who will be appearing at venues across the town, including coffee shops and churches, pubs and restaurants.

Wristbands, which act as entry to all events are £5 each and available from the 20 venues taking part. Visitors can choose from more than 160 appearances, from blues to jazz, pop to rock, bands to choirs, poets to percussion and drama to country, as they wander in and out of any venue to enjoy the music, as the bands play 45 minute sessions throughout the evenings from 7pm until 10pm.

This year’s bands include: The Red Rosettes, a dynamic, national award winning ladies chorus, who sing unaccompanied in four-part harmony; the Well Dressed Gentlemen – who take expertly crafted songs from the 1920s and 30s and interpret them in their own unique way and the Preston Semitones – a little big band in Preston playing rag time, jazz, ballads, light classical and modern compositions.

Whilst most of the music is in the evenings, (all venues are family friendly) there are plenty of activities and workshops taking place during the day for all the family.

Rebecca Heap, community involvement manager for South Ribble Council, who organises the event said: “There’s always a great atmosphere with people of all ages. The added benefit is that everything is all within walking distance and the A59 is on the main bus route so it’s easily accessible. More than 2500 people visit across the two days, some local and others travel in.”

So, book the weekend off, buy your wristband and enjoy the entertainment.
