Self-Refer For Expert Care

Spire Fylde Coast is expanding its services to support surgical activity and diagnostic imaging for patients in the catchment area, writes Meena McDonald

The needs of the community are at the heart of everything Spire Fylde Coast Hospital does. Working collaboratively with local healthcare professionals such as GPs, the local NHS Trust and the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG), the hospital first establishes the needs of the local community.

Once the requirements are established, full consideration is given to the services provided, the experts who will deliver the treatments and the state-of-the-art equipment to facilitate them.

Tracy Jackson, Hospital Director at Spire Fylde Coast commented: “The hospital has seen investments of £1.2 million in the past year.

“We have built a new minor theatre which has provided additional treatment space for day case patients for a wide range of procedures. It has also allowed us to increase our inpatient capacity as we have newly decorated private inpatient rooms and two day-case wards.”

There has been a full refurbishment of the imaging equipment across the hospital and a new MRI scanner has been installed on site.

Spire Fylde Coast Hospital is aware that it can be difficult for patients to access their GPs, so have private GPs at the hospital that patients can book in to see on an ad-hoc basis.

Private patients also have the option to self-refer, meaning they can book in to see a consultant without going through their GP. A wide range of procedures can now be done in the minor procedure room.

Experienced physiotherapists are also available onsite and can too be seen without the need of a GP referral. If needed, physiotherapists can refer patients for a diagnostic scan or to get specialist advice from a Consultant Surgeon.
