SHINING LIGHT

A new showroom where quality and style shines, is providing discerning homeowners with premium lighting solutions.

Offering lighting that you won’t find anywhere else on the high street, James Kok Lighting’s showroom unveils a whole new world when it comes to the latest designs.

“Sourcing our lighting is very important to us,” explains owner James Kok, who set up his lighting consultancy business in 2013 after successfully managing his parent’s lighting business, which was regarded as one of the finest in the North of England.

“At James Kok Lighting we like to feature outstanding design coupled with great service. We like to be different and we have opened the showroom as we appreciate that clients like to see certain lights in-situ.”

Sourcing some of their lighting in the UK, many products are also carefully selected from skilled manufacturers throughout Europe including Spain, Italy and Germany.

“That is made from crystal in Austria,” says James, pointing to a beautiful, mirrored chandelier that would be just as at home in a classic or contemporary setting.

The light illuminates the room as James instructs: “Google turn on the big light.”

Working on high-tech integrated projects as well as more traditional home systems, James Kok Lighting collaborates with other premium interiors companies, including kitchen designer Stuart Frazer and Bernard Dickinson, which supplies ‘smart home’ solutions, from automated blinds to security lighting.

“Again, quality and service are at the heart of everything we do,” explains James. “We work on voice activated solutions that can prompt the lightbulbs to change colour and, working with others, this can be integrated into a whole smart home system.”

“We work on new builds and extensions as well as with home-owners who may just want to update lighting in one room.”

“On new builds we can create whole exterior and interior lighting schemes. We liaise with architects and homeowners to draw up a plan to indicate each lighting point in the property.”

Once this has been created James will produce visuals to get an idea of the client’s preferred style: “We want customers to be able to come to the showroom, relax, have a coffee and spend time choosing their lighting. Lighting is hugely important – it creates ambience in a home and can make a real statement.”

Working predominantly on domestic projects, James predicts that crystal is making a welcome comeback in current lighting trends.

“While the industrial trend is still very strong, smaller LEDs are enabling manufacturers to create some stunning designs,” says James, pointing to a spiralling ceiling light made of narrow LED strips illuminating an array of tiny twinkling crystals – a lighting show-stopper that becomes a focal point to a room.

“It’s a case of combining excellent design with absolute manufacturing quality,” concludes James. “If anyone wants advice on any lighting solution, they can give us a call, come in for a chat and see what we have to offer.”
