Showcasing Lancashire’s Finest

Step inside Bowland Food Hall in Clitheroe, and you’ll know immediately that this is no ordinary ‘food shop’ writes Kate Ford

Lancashire has a rich food heritage with suppliers county-wide growing and creating quality produce to grace our tables the whole year round. Nowhere is this medley of delights showcased better than at Bowland Food Hall, part of Clitheroe’s vibrant Holmes Mill complex. Always ready to encourage customers to embrace the best that Lancashire has to offer, the Food Hall has some particularly tasty treats in store for autumn.

“We’re so blessed with the quality of food produced in Lancashire,” says marketing manager, Heidi Kettle. “From the highest quality locally-reared meats to mouth-watering artisan cheeses and dairy produce.”

In celebration of these riches, and true to its mantra of ‘the best of Lancashire and the best of beyond’, Bowland Food Hall has launched a new range of great tasting Graze Boxes. Available in two sizes, the Charcuterie Graze Box and Cheese Lovers Graze box are designed to provide a whole delicious, tapas-style meal for two to five people.

“The Graze Boxes are perfect for a carpet picnic by the fire or a Friday night feast watching your latest box set,” says Heidi. “Order online or by telephone, collect on your way home from work and that’s dinner sorted.” Full details of the boxes and their contents can be found on the website.

As autumn arrives, our appetites turn to warming meals like slow-cooked casseroles, comforting roast dinners and hearty cooked breakfasts. You’ll find everything you need at the food hall’s butchers counter, from locally reared meats to expert cooking advice.

“Our friendly butchers are more than happy to offer cooking tips, advice on quantities required and even recipe ideas,” says Heidi. “It’s the whole package and it’s what makes people return to us again and again.”

And with a range of special ‘Butcher’s Packs’ available, you can pick up a selection of meats all in one go, providing a range of meal ideas and perfect for stocking up your freezer.

Visiting Bowland Food Hall is about much more than simply buying food, it’s a whole experience. There’s a café where you can relax in unique surroundings and taste the produce on offer. If you like what you taste, you’ll be able to buy the ingredients to recreate dishes in your own kitchen.

“During lockdown, people became more interested in buying locally-sourced food and more adventurous with home cooking, because they couldn’t eat out,” says Heidi. “We aim to make home cooking more pleasurable because, after all, home is a haven and food is very much a part of that.”

There’s no avoiding that the festive season is on the horizon and, if you have foodies in your life, you’ll find a whole range of original and quirky gift ideas here. From food and drink gift sets, to dining and serving accessories to add a touch of style to your festive table.
