Visiting the Red Pump Inn on a night out with the boys, we discovered probably the best steak in the world!

Jonathan and Fran Gledhill, the passionate and talented owners of the Red Pump Inn situated in the picturesque village of Bashall Eaves, have a wonderful warmth, ethos and drive perfectly summed up in a recent quote from Jonathan: “We care passionately about providing a genuine, warm, heartfelt welcome into our home for our guests and are motivated by the love for what we do and the quality of the product we provide.”

The Red Pump is a beautiful country inn with eight fabulous bedrooms, a delightful place to escape the pressures of the world, enjoy a night in comfort, pampered by the friendly staff and nourished by the food and drink served in the steak restaurant and bar!

The menu isn’t just a beef fest and, as we found on a recent early summer visit, the menu is extensive and contains some real classics as well as the famous steaks by Ginger Pig of London.

Specialising in native breeds reared in North Yorkshire, this beef of exceptional quality, is the mainstay of the Red Pump menu.

Our boys’ night out started with a few pints of classic cask ales and the menu caused us a few choice problems but we were soon under orders. The new menu has a number of great additions. Tedd started with woodland mushroom soufflé, featuring superb mushrooms, Garstang Blue cheese, a hint of garlic and cream, what could be better?

Andrew was delighted with the plump steamed mussels in cider with smoked garlic and a touch of cream and with crusty bread he was in heaven.

I was unable to resist the classic devilled kidneys – I am sure this must be the only restaurant for miles serving this awesome delicacy, absolutely unbelievably good.

Jonathan chose for us a really great value and delicious red from his lovely wine list – it went down really rather well!

For main course Tedd chose the new pork and chorizo cassoulet, borlotti beans, tomatoes, red wine and pork shank which was a rustic plateful of deliciousness! Andrew was also on a food adventure with a colourful and wonderfully spiced Moroccan chicken – it was beautifully presented, a wonderful change of flavour with the Ras el Hanout yoghurt outstandingly good.

I was fascinated by the new addition of a 90-day dry aged ribeye, and having discussed its merits at length with Jonathan, I had to try one! It was absolutely delicious, tender and full of the most delicate flavours imaginable! It needed little or nothing in the way of sauces. I would deny you to find a better steak anywhere!

The puddings were nearly a step too far but two delicious cheese boards and a superb sticky toffee pudding were the perfect ending to a lovely evening.
