So Much More…

Featuring top UK artists, Longridge Gallery is also able to offer specialist framing and restoration services as well as a unique capability to source and commission original artwork

While Longridge Gallery is renowned for its beautiful artwork and sculptures by world-leading talent, the gallery also has a first-class, in-house framing and restoration service.

Using some of the North West’s finest specialist restorers, Longridge Gallery can restore old paintings to their former glory. “The restorers we work with are among the very best. They can delicately clean paintings, which instantly brightens them,” says Nick Smith, who with his fiancée Sophie, are the next generation to join this family business, which has been owned by Alistair Sheret since 2000. “Foxing – a fine mildew-like mould caused by humidity can be treated in the right hands,” continues Nick. “And we have seen fabulous results when canvasses are repaired, re-lined to add tension and the paint re-touched.”

Longridge Gallery’s specialist services, don’t just end with restoration – the gallery also specialises in framing unusual work including cross-stitch, embroidery and tapestry which are stretched across a board to enhance the display, signed football shirts of which the gallery has had a good number featuring the names of top England players and, more recently, Nick and the team have had a particularly challenging request – the framing of a broken cymbal: “This was a truly unique experience for us,” recalls Nick.

“A lady brought in the broken cymbal which belonged to her son. We had to figure out how to attach it to the board and work out the best way to position it to present it in the best possible way.

“It looked amazing and the customer was unbelievably happy with it!”

In a further example of Longridge Gallery’s ability to work with unusual artefacts and family heirlooms, Nick was presented with a set of WW1 postcards and love letters that had been left in an attic for decades: “They were over 100 years old and had been passed down the generations.”

While the gallery is known for exhibiting upcoming artists and sculptors, Nick can also source and commission works from sought-after artists.

“We work with all the top publishers in the UK so we can deal with the majority of requests that come in. As a gallery we do a lot more than just what you see on the walls.”

In the run-up to Christmas, Longridge Gallery is already receiving requests and commissions, as Nick explains: “If someone has a favourite artist, we can source original paintings or we can even commission a unique piece. For example, if someone liked a cityscape of London and wanted a similar one of another city, in the artist’s own unique style, that can be done, and it is becoming increasingly popular.”

Featuring leading and increasingly popular artists such as Ruby Keller, John Russell and new work from Doug Hyde, Longridge Gallery drives sales and interest from their social media posts: “We are finding that people from all over the country are reaching out to us on social media, enquiring about the work we are featuring in the gallery as well as enquiries about new artists and commissions. Please feel free to follow the gallery on any of its social media platforms to keep abreast of new artwork coming in.”
