Social Sciences Lead

To Top Roles

Social science subjects at St Mary’s College are becoming increasingly popular as they often lead to senior, managerial roles within the workplace

Renowned for its forward-thinking, progressive approach to learning, St Mary’s College has been attracting many students from the Ribble Valley, who are keen to study on one of the College’s dynamic social science courses.

Students often don’t get the opportunity to study social sciences at school so to study law, criminology, psychology or sociology at St Mary’s College enables them to discover just how exciting and vibrant these subjects are.

At the College, law, psychology and sociology can all be studied at A level, while law and criminology can be studied as vocational subjects. Whatever level of study students choose, both qualifications can lead to a university placing.

Many social science students at St Mary’s have progressed to top universities, like former student Sacha Leak who says: “I loved studying social sciences at St Mary’s College. I’ve found my subjects really interesting and challenging and they have allowed me to think and analyse. My teachers have been so supportive and have helped me achieve my dream of studying Sociology with Criminology at Liverpool University.”

Interestingly, a recent survey found that more graduates are employed within their field of social science after graduating than the traditional STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) and that these positions are often in managerial and senior roles.

At St Mary’s College, social science students have many and varied opportunities. To enhance learning, they enjoy regular visits to the law courts as well as trips to London, New York, Poland and Barcelona.

All social science courses are led by highly experienced tutors – for example the College’s law department is led by a team of dedicated specialists, who not only have an excellent knowledge of the law from a classroom perspective, but can also pass on their industry expertise gained from practice.

Students studying social sciences also have ample work experience opportunities thanks to St Mary’s dedicated work experience co-ordinator.

If you are interested in any of the social science subjects don’t hesitate to get in touch with the College or why not attend the forthcoming open event to find out more? It’s not too late to apply!
