Special Day, Special Place
Sarah de Waard talks to Guy Hindley about his stunning new wedding venue for 2017 on the Gisburne Park Estate
The glorious surroundings of the 1000-acre estate at Gisburne Park is already home to the thriving tourist destination, Ribblesdale Park, and this year will see the opening of a spectacular new wedding venue for those looking for privacy, exclusivity and a truly unique place to get married.
Owner Guy Hindley tells me: “We are thrilled to be able to offer weddings here in such a special setting. We have 10 acres of the most beautiful countryside exclusively for the use of the wedding party, which will be available to them for three days.”
Guy has recently appointed Sarah McGrail as Director of Weddings, who has over eight years’ experience organising Ribble Valley weddings.
“There is a thriving wedding industry in the Ribble Valley, but we are offering something different,” Sarah explains. “We will only have a limited number of weddings per year so we can ensure each couple gets our undivided attention, and all the weddings will be entirely bespoke so the sky really is the limit.”
A stunning marquee seating up to 150 guests will be at the heart of the venue, nestled in the unspoilt countryside alongside the river and with access to a three bedroomed, former game keeper’s cottage that will be for the exclusive use of the bridal party for two nights.
“Because the venue is available to the wedding party for three days, it gives the couples a chance to relax into their surroundings before the big day and be as involved as they like with the preparations, or simply use the time to enjoy all that the estate has to offer while we make everything perfect,” Sarah adds. “After the wedding there is no rush to leave and we really think that is so important when we are offering such a unique experience.”
Picturesque bridges make for the perfect photo opportunities, whilst there is a multitude of fairy lights and secluded areas for guests to roam and spot majestic Sika stags and kingfishers which all adds to the magical ambience. Golf buggies will also be available for a photo trail around the 10-acre site.
“Couples can get married at St Mary’s, a Norman church on the estate, before making their way to the venue, or they can be married at the venue itself,” Director of Finance Peter Lambert tells me. “It’s such a special setting, when you drive around the corner and see the location it really takes your breath away. For a bride to have such exclusivity and privacy is unique.”
Every aspect of the couple’s day will be completely bespoke. Guy explains: “We will be working with very select partners to provide every aspect of the wedding, from catering to bar staff, cars, photographers and anything else that the couple requires. There is no upper limit to what we can provide, and we will only work with the best of the best.”
Guy is no stranger to running a successful business, with Ribblesdale Park recently winning the coveted Best Lodge Park in the North of England 2016 at the Hoseasons Diamond Awards. There are 50 lodges and several beautiful holiday cottages, each with a private hot tub, that are available for hire for wedding guest accommodation. There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool hidden within the walled gardens and a gourmet café.
“We get lots of couples coming to Ribblesdale Park to get engaged, as it’s such a beautiful setting. So it seemed the next logical step to provide somewhere wonderful where people can get married too.”
