SPECIFICALLY LUTRON LIGHT

With a little thinking outside the box, energy saving solutions and intelligent control can shed new light on your home. Still in the dark? Let Andrew Dickinson of Bernard Dickinson enlighten you

Nature throws so much at us in terms of light – dazzling direct sunbeams, which bring welcome warmth in winter, but also unbearable heat in summer.

We all know how light can affect us yet it still surprises me that intelligent lighting control still gets a lower billing in many homes and in the world of home automation.

We’ve come a long way since the advent of the dimmer switch, yet that basic operation is still at its heart – make it brighter when it’s dark, and less light when its … you get the picture.

Today’s homes demand the latest technology to make these operations easier, more efficient and more effective.

Whether it’s just a single room, multiple spaces or a whole home, you can control the light, it’s intensity and shade levels using a hand-held remote, a sleek wall-mounted keypad, smartphone or iPad.

Press a button on a keypad or screen and the lights and shades adjust to your pre-programmed settings and levels for that space. Lighting and shades that can be programmed to open and close, turn on and off or change in intensity, when you’re not there. You can have ‘mockupancy’ settings too for that extra peace of mind when you’re away on holiday.

Bernard Dickinson have been working with Lutron (www.lutron.com) for almost two decades and, like many others, consider them to be a world leader in the world of lighting control.

Instead of developing their technology and trying to shape our homes to suit, Lutron starts with user experience first and foremost.

The Lutron systems are also massively energy efficient. Using LED lighting means less power, and longer lifespan of the bulbs.

Using that greatest resource natural light, Lutron’s elegant shading solutions means we can be even more energy efficient too and while shades are there to regulate temperature, they can help protect home furnishings from UV rays.

While it may come as quite a surprise that Bernard Dickinson are involved in lighting and shading systems – after all we’ve established our reputation in high-end audio, television and home cinema – we consider it to be a natural progression. When you’re settling down to enjoy a movie or engaging programme on your state-of the-art system, surely you want the lighting to be just right?

We have increasingly found ourselves designing and installing bespoke cinema rooms, so the requirements for lighting, which can enhance the environment, have increased too.

If you’d like to find out more about how intelligent lighting control can enhance your home, please do get in touch.
