STYLE, CLASS AND QUALITY

Success continues for the inspirational team at Velvet in Ramsbottom with last month’s launch of their new menswear shop, writes Gail Bailey

After nine successful trading years, Debbie McDermott and her team at Velvet recognised there was a gap in the market for a menswear business in the town. The idea became a reality after much research and hard work when they opened Velvet Menswear in April 2019: “This has been a natural progression for us,” explains Debbie. “We are thrilled at how popular the new store is proving.”
Situated just doors away from the original Velvet Ladieswear, the new store houses a great selection of menswear brands and products.

“The interior of our Velvet Menswear store feels like a place a man would want to shop,” says Debbie.

With a wash wood finish, traditional furniture and wing back leather chairs, it is both stylish and masculine. The walls are adorned with sporting memorabilia, complementing and enhancing the look of this beautiful old building.

The store stocks Premium Brand of the Year Barbour, renowned for its country ranges and wax jackets, and other winning brand leaders like Joules and White Stuff, both easy to wear and great quality.

Velvet also stock some very different European brands which are classic and timeless. German Fynch-Hatton focuses on great shirts and beautiful knitted jumpers, Gurteen produce timeless blazers and tweed jackets, Eterna and Claudio Lugli shirts with a focus on individuality, along with many more, all chosen for their class, style and timeless good taste.

“Our biggest success has been the amazing Meyer trousers – the response to this range has been phenomenal,” says Debbie. “They are the finest quality trousers, crafted from innovative fabrics. They are exquisite – I only wish they had a ladies’ range too as they are so beautifully finished. More importantly they are the perfect fit and are of the utmost premium quality. Every pair is produced in their own factory so attention to detail is second to none! Meyer are also the biggest trouser house in the world – our customers are thrilled with them.”

New and exclusive ranges to Velvet Menswear are 2Blind2C, a Copenhagen company with a true passion for taste. All their stock is designed in Denmark with luxury Italian textiles.

Debbie explains: “Sourcing labels that are sought after or unusual are what makes our customers keep returning. 2Blind2C are only stocked at Velvet Menswear and nowhere else in the UK. The feedback so far has been fantastic, customers are loving the look of the store and the product ranges we have selected, and we are so pleased to be able to give our customers even more than they were expecting.”

With an eye for design and style Debbie and her team have selected quality footwear ranges to accompany the clothing. These include Loake, Azor, Oswin Hyde and Bugatti, offering a variety of price points yet still comfortable shoes that fit.

Ramsbottom is a celebration of independent shops and restaurants and the high street is bucking the retail national trend with its continued success, as Debbie explains: “Local people want to support local businesses, and we have been so very lucky. People continue to visit us and support us in whatever we do, and we also like to get involved in the local community.”

“The area has been described in the media as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK and this helps to bring people in to the town. We have some great eateries and lots of local independent businesses – once they have experienced what Ramsbottom has to offer they always want to come back!”

“Our success is very often through word of mouth and we are thrilled with the response our new menswear shop has received.”

“We work hard together and are very proud of all our team and the individual service we offer our customers at Velvet Ladieswear and now our fabulous new menswear store too.”
