Hundreds of visitors flocked to Longridge recently for an annual art extravaganza that exceeded all expectations!

On what was a glorious sunny day Create Longridge 2018 saw 68 talented artists create a piece of art from scratch, using a three mile radius of the town and its rural backdrop.

The first prize of £2,000 sponsored by Raymond James Investment Services went to Adam Ralston from Blackpool who painted Berry Lane in his modern British style using oils on board.

The second prize of £1,000 sponsored by Grandma Singletons went to Andrew Farmer from Doncaster who painted Market Place in Longridge, also in oils on board, while third prize of £500 sponsored by Hoppy Days Micro Pub went to John McCloskey from Pleasington, who painted Parlick Hill from Jeffrey Hill, taking a colourist approach also using oils on board.

Judges were last year’s winner Steve Rostron from Sadben, Wayne Hayhurst from Raymond James and Alistair Sheret of Longridge Gallery.

During the week following the competition all 68 paintings were displayed at Longridge Gallery with more than 20 being sold. The first, second and third prize-winning exhibits are to be presented to the sponsors.

This year also saw an Exhibition Visitors’ Prize, sponsored by U3A Longridge and won by Emma Lord from the town, which also hosted a number of fringe activities on the day.

“This year’s event was fabulous!” says Alistair Sheret of Longridge Gallery. “The quality of the art was impressive. Create Longridge uses art as a vehicle to bring visitors to the town and at least three businesses reported record takings, which is a fantastic result.”

“I am thrilled on many levels – for the artists who created such beautiful work and who were able to showcase their talent, and as an added bonus those who sold their work got financial reward. I am also thrilled for the town of Longridge as the event attracted so many visitors – and the weather was simply amazing. What a beautiful day!”
