SUMMER COCKTAIL

This year is the centenary year marking the end of WW1 which saw soldiers from East Lancashire returning home with a French liqueur that remains popular to this day

Soldiers in the East Lancashire Regiment developed a taste for the French liqueur Bénédictine in the First World War, when they drank it with hot water to keep warm.

They brought Bénédictine back with them when they returned to England and have drunk it ever since – the Burnley Miners Club is the biggest consumer of Bénédictine to this day!

Bénédictine has evolved since then and the liqueur is a much-loved cocktail ingredient. Just in time for summer, here is a cocktail with a Lancashire twist.

It’s perfect for the holiday season and ideal to enjoy with a barbecue. As things heat up on the grill, Bénédictine will heat things up at the bar with a fiery, fresh twist on a Bloody Mary, that’s sure to get you ready and raring for the party ahead.

Ingredients
50ml Bénédictine
200ml tomato juice
10ml lemon juice
2 dashes of Tabasco/hot sauce
1 stick of celery
Pinch of salt & pepper
30ml smoky BBQ sauce

Method
Pour all ingredients into a glass, mix well and add ice

Garnish
Garnish with celery and a cherry tomato.
