SUMMER SCHOOL AND SHOWCASE

A performing arts academy has seen an overwhelming response in its first term, with youngsters from all over the Ribble Valley eager to join

Talented singer Ella Shaw who set up her own performing arts academy last year has been overwhelmed by the response to her new venture.

It is a dream come true for the performer, who rose to fame after her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent – she now has a waiting list of youngsters eager to join Ella Shaw’s Academy of Arts, which takes place every Saturday at The Grand Venue in Clitheroe.

The dedicated singing, drama and dance academy sees some of the UK’s leading performing arts experts taking classes and workshops. Professional singer Ella heads up the academy, while local dance expert Grace Avery, who attended the Italia Conti School and has performed on the One Show and at the World Cup finals in Paris, teaches modern dance.

Taking care of the drama element is Kathryn Maye-David, who attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Ella, who continues to perform at boutique festivals throughout the UK, is keen to introduce young people to modern song, dance and drama: “The response to the opening of the academy has been absolutely unbelievable! I didn’t expect it to take off so quickly.

“When you start a new venture you expect to set yourself up and grow steadily and slowly but we now have a waiting list for youngsters wanting to start at the beginning of the September term.

“We focus very much on modern performing arts and we are hoping in the New Year to start more classes in response to rising demand.”

On 7th July the academy is holding its first showcase Ella Shaw’s Academy of Arts and Friends when there will be guest performers along with students showcasing what they have learnt over their first term.

The academy is also staging a week-long Summer School from 13th to 17th August – guest tutors from London and all over the UK will take part in the event which will see students involved in drama, dance and singing as well as using the recording studio at The Grand and performing live on stage.

“The Summer School is a great way to experience what we do and it’s also a great opportunity to sign up for the new term in September.”

“If anyone is interested in joining the academy they need to make contact as I don’t want anyone to be disappointed!”
