SUMMER TIME IN CLITHEROE…

Take a trip into Clitheroe and discover a market town brimming with character

Clitheroe attracts thousands of people – it is at the heart of the Ribble Valley and in summer time when the flowers are in full bloom, the shops and open air café bars are buzzing, it is a great place to be.

Steeped in history, Clitheroe’s most prominent feature is the 12th century Norman castle keep set upon a limestone outcrop. Visit the museum there or while away the time admiring the castle grounds and the stunning views.

There have been many changes in the course of the town’s history and that of the surrounding towns and villages, but the characteristics stay much the same – the friendliness of the residents and the diversity of the Ribble Valley’s independent retailers and businesses.

Because many businesses in the town are independent they offer a wide range of unique products and services, from beauticians and hair stylists, interiors designers and architects to legal experts who can offer professional advice – we have lots of knowledgeable specialists – not forgetting our UK renowned chefs and local producers!

Clitheroe has access to all that the Ribble Valley has to offer – wonderful artisan produce ranging from cakes and breads made in farmhouse kitchens to local cheeses, chutneys and meats.

August is a very special month for the town – the unmissable Clitheroe Food Festival will bring the town alive with TV chefs working their magic, culinary workshops, tasting and stalls selling the best Lancashire produce!

The festival has become renowned throughout the UK and this year it will be held on Saturday 13th August from 9am until 4.30pm. Now in its sixth year, over 20,000 visitors enjoy the festival experience featuring the finest Lancashire food and drink.

It is a great free, family day out and will certainly not disappoint! Sample delicious street food and take home the finest produce, listen to live music whilst enjoying a drink from one of our pop-up bars – the streets of Clitheroe will be buzzing on festival day so be part of the fun!
