TAKING CARE OF

YOUR LOVED ONE…

The professionals at Abbeyfield have introduced a series of new initiatives to enhance the excellent facilities for their residents

In the heart of Clitheroe is a care home that is leading the way in terms of providing first class, person centred care and meeting the needs of its elderly residents.

Abbeyfield is also spearheading a ground-breaking campaign that sees residents involved in the local community with visits from schoolchildren and nurseries and activities that include poetry, singing, music and movement classes.

Over the past 12 months this enhanced programme of activities has gradually evolved thanks to organiser Vicky, who has introduced a range of excellent initiatives that residents have the option of joining.

Visits by schoolchildren have proved particularly successful, with the residents and children joining in games, singing and activity sessions together.

“It works particularly well both for the residents and children,” explains Abbeyfield’s Chairman of Trustees Janet Taylor.

Another initiative suggested by a 98-year-old former lay preacher has also been a resounding success. With the help of other residents, she takes a fortnightly service often attended by around 16 like-minded people who enjoy the celebratory sermon and hymns.

To further add to the facilities at Abbeyfield a decision was made to bring all the catering in-house to ensure residents get nutritious, wholesome meals that they enjoy: “We talk to them and get their feedback so the team can cater for their preferences,” adds Janet.

As a not for profit organisation, Abbeyfield House ensures that all residents, whatever their level of need, are looked after in a professional, friendly environment.

The Clitheroe wing, which caters for residents who have dementia or need a higher level of care, can accommodate 11 people. The staff to resident ratio is higher so residents receive personal attention and care in the unit, where next year there will be a new separate garden and garden room that will provide an attractive, safe, secure area for residents in the Clitheroe wing to access unaccompanied.

Providing long term, short term, specialist or respite care Abbeyfield Care Home, which accommodates 40 residents in total, has a dedicated team of well-trained care staff who are committed to meeting residents’ every need.

They can provide respite care for full time carers, giving them a much-needed break, or they can provide the specialist, professional long-term support for those living with dementia and more demanding conditions.

Whatever level of need, Abbeyfield understands the importance of getting to know their residents and their family. The team is totally dedicated to providing the highest quality of care while endeavouring to keep residents’ independence and dignity.

If you are considering care for a loved one, Abbeyfield will conduct a full assessment in terms of what level of care is required so you and your family can relax, safe in the knowledge that they are in expert hands – the care home is rated ‘Good’ by regulatory body the CQC.
