The Best Of British Food

Two established Penwortham businesses have joined forces to open a new restaurant focusing on British cuisine, adding to the town’s growing restaurant scene, writes Emma Brereton

At the heart of a bustling town, Vinro nestles perfectly amongst other reputable businesses in Penwortham, who have given a warm welcome to the new venture that allows for more choice to those looking for somewhere to enjoy an evening meal, light lunch or Sunday roast.

“We have created a restaurant that’s classic with a modern twist, sophisticated and stylish yet comfortable,” says Debbie Colles, owner at The Tap and Vine and co-owner at Vinro.

“Guests will not be rushed. We want diners to make an evening of it when they visit. It may be small in size but the focus is on high quality and locally sourced ingredients.”

Serving dishes that would impress meant choosing the right chef to deliver a delicious and exciting menu, was imperative to the restaurant’s success.

Experienced chef Tom Gardner has taken the helm following a career working in catering for more than 25 years within hotels, fine dining and as head chef for a premier league football team. Eager for a new challenge, Tom shares the vision for Vinro – a small, intimate place to appreciate exceptional food and wine.

“Tom has been involved with the Vinro concept right from the start,” adds Stephen Allen, another co-owner. “His experience and passion for food, meticulous planning and attention to detail is reason alone to book a table. He prepares each and every dish by hand and it is because of this that he is already receiving rave reviews.”

The menu is a British selection of culinary delights. It boasts dishes such as citrus cured mackerel, chicken and sun blushed tomato roulade and home-made summer pudding. It’s not only the best of British food but the best ingredients Lancashire has to offer.

Debbie says: “Vinro is the perfect addition to this vibrant suburb of Preston. The first few weeks have been a huge success and we have been delighted to provide the personal dining experience we talked about when we first discussed the idea of opening a restaurant.”

More recently Vinro has appointed Matthew Nicholson as front of house manager. Matthew, who is from Penwortham has more than 10 years’ experience in formal and casual dining.

Stephen explains: “Matthew embodies a passion to create a fantastic dining experience for guests as soon as they arrive and shares our ambition to make Vinro a ‘must visit’ destination for foodies across South Ribble and Preston.”

Vinro is open for lunch Thursday to Saturday, for its evening a la carte menu Wednesday to Saturday and from 12pm – 5pm for Sunday lunch.

“We launched our Sunday roast menu on Father’s Day and it is proving to be very popular,” says Debbie. “It’s a great time to give yourself Sunday off from cooking for the family and enjoy the best quality ingredients in a relaxed setting.”

Bookings for up to four people can be made via the website and for parties of five and more, contact the restaurant directly
