THE CHANCE TO SHINE

With an Open Day on the horizon, visitors can see for themselves the fabulous facilities available at Westholme School where children are given the chance to shine whatever their age!

With an ethos that values pupils’ achievements on every level, the vibrant educational environment that is Westholme helps each child to develop and reach his or her full potential.

Whether their talents lie in academia, sport or the arts, children are given a wealth of opportunities from the start of their educational journey through Westholme, which nurtures pupils through the Primary, Senior and Sixth Form stages so they emerge as confident young adults.

Providing a balanced curriculum, the dynamic Westholme teaching staff encourage a positive attitude to study from an early age, treating each pupil as an individual, helping build self-esteem and discover hidden talents.

Offering fabulous facilities and resources to support pupils’ learning, Westholme Infants benefit from an interactive outdoor space, ‘Discovery Dell’, complete with flowerbeds, music wall and cycle track. There are well stocked learning zones in the Infant and Junior schools with iPads available to use in various lessons. The younger children also use the facilities at Senior School too, with Year 6 children visiting every week to ease their transition when they move up.

For all students, learning is supported by trips and talks by industry professionals, and for the older students career workshops and visits to universities enhance the curriculum.

At Westholme all pupils enjoy a diverse and challenging academic curriculum that sees specialist teaching from Reception age in French and Music and swimming lessons from Pre School age.

With a floodlit all-weather pitch, rugby pitch, athletics field, swimming pool and tennis courts, pupils enjoy working with professional coaches and the school has strong links with Preston Grasshoppers and Blackburn Rovers.

Westholme also benefits from a dedicated Music Centre, Learning Resource Centre and professional theatre giving pupils the opportunity to develop their skills from an early age and take an active part in the arts.

All abilities are catered for and respected, creating a diverse and happy atmosphere. A House system encourages children to feel they belong within the school community and there are also excellent leadership opportunities with House Captains, Form Captains and Heads of School.

There is an exceptional co-curricular programme and the school’s newest additions to this include a Junior fencing club and a Mad Science club for the Infant children, enabling them to take part in hands-on experiments from a very early age.

With strong links with the wider community, staff and pupils work with local sporting organisations and charities including Nightsafe. Students recently raised thousands of pounds for the Blackburn-based charity for homeless young people, following a sponsored sleep out demonstrating their commitment to the community.

Offering excellent pastoral support, students at Westholme are educated in a caring environment where their individual needs are given priority. As a result they go out into the world where they are able to overcome challenges and work and study independently; they have creative and original thoughts and opinions and, as young adults, they are able to command respect and show respect for others.

Westholme ensures that all pupils enjoy learning in a joyous environment which celebrates all abilities and talents.
