As soon as you walk into Beauty and the Boutique, you hear the friendly, happy chatter of people who are clearly relaxed in each other’s company. Therapists and clients are covering the topics of the day, from last night’s TV to current affairs and they sound just like old friends enjoying a catch up.

“I think that’s what makes us different,” says Jenna Whittingham-Cox, who owns this popular hair and beauty salon in Penwortham. “It’s a super-friendly, relaxed and welcoming place. Some of our clients feel so much at home that they’ll go and make themselves their own cup of tea!”

In the bright and spacious main treatment room, with its high ceilings and period features, clients are having their nails done or treating themselves to lash extensions. Meanwhile, in the next room, the hair salon is buzzing as the experienced colourists and stylists create a new look for some very satisfied customers.

There’s also a spray tanning room and another treatment room where clients can be seen in couples or enjoy some one-to-one attention, perhaps for a massage or a facial. This is something else that makes Beauty and the Boutique different, it offers a comprehensive range of services, from head to toe, making it a one-stop shop for hair and beauty.

This popular business celebrates its 10th anniversary next year, an ongoing success which is down to the dedication of Jenna herself. Always incredibly hardworking, Jenna studied business at university, training as a beauty therapist in the evenings, so that she was fully prepared to set up on her own.

Jenna is quick to credit a huge amount of the success to her fantastic team, whom she now considers to be like family and without which she wouldn’t being looking forward to celebrating her first decade in business.

In 2012, Jenna’s business acumen and drive won her a place on the BBC reality show, The Apprentice and she impressed Lord Sugar enough to make it all the way to week nine of the competition.

“It was an incredible experience, much harder work than I thought it would be,” she says. “Clients still ask me about it now, especially at this time of year when the current series is on television and I’m happy to tell them about it.”

In the salon, Jenna specialises in lash work, having been one of the first therapists in Preston to start working with eyelashes back in 2009. She offers a full range of lash extension treatments, including LVL, classic lashes and Russian lashes.

Facial treatments include the clinically proven ‘Crystal Clear’ microdermabrasion, which radically improves the skin’s appearance. Nail treatments use leading products such as Shellac and The Gel Bottle, whilst in the hair studio, industry leading treatments such as KeraStraight and Olaplex are popular choices, and hair extensions are also available.

The salon offers Princess Parties for birthdays, where youngsters can have their hair, make-up and nails done. “We have clients of all ages here, everyone is made very welcome,” says Jenna. And, you can tell that she means it.
