THE EYES HAVE IT

Consultant ophthalmologist Mano Sira offers specialist surgical and non-surgical treatments to resolve medical and cosmetic issues surrounding the eyes

Consultant ophthalmologist Mano Sira is the Ribble Valley’s ‘go-to’ specialist for all things related to the eyelids, using the latest surgical and non-surgical procedures for both medical and cosmetic conditions.

With patient care at the heart of all treatments, Mano heads up the Eye Lid Clinic within consulting rooms at Beardwood Hospital in Blackburn and the Lancaster Hospital. He is also an NHS consultant oculoplastic and ophthalmic surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals’ Eye Centre in Chorley specialising in the eyelids, orbits and reconstructive surgery. His specialist work also includes endoscopic tear drainage for watery eyes, skin lesion treatment, thyroid eye disease as well as major life-threatening conditions such as tumours affecting the eye.

With more than 15 years’ experience, Mano, who was educated in London and Oxford, undertook fellowship training at various centres of excellence throughout the UK and Europe including Moorfields, East Grinstead and Marienhospital in Stuttgart.

Concentrating purely on treating the eye area, Mano is highly respected within the medical profession and receives referrals from the whole of Lancashire and South Cumbria within the NHS as well as working privately.

He explains: “I work with patients with all kinds of problems affecting the eyes and lids and can perform surgical and non-surgical procedures that can resolve medical and functional issues as well as aesthetics.”

Working from his private consulting rooms, his aesthetics work includes administering anti-wrinkle treatments, brow lifting and treatments for dark circles, dermal fillers and non-surgical skin peels as well as surgical procedures around the eyes including rectifying unsightly eye bags and hooded lids under local or general anaesthetic.

“The cosmetic procedures I carry out leave patients looking rejuvenated,” explains Mano, who lives in the heart of the Ribble Valley with his wife Julie and two young children.

From the aesthetic aspect, he understands that navigating the cosmetic treatments that are available is difficult: “There is a huge number of treatments and understandably it can be difficult to decide. There are trained professionals and medical specialists as well as non-medics and beauticians offering a whole host of procedures.

“I only work on the eye area of the face. It is my specialism and patients find that reassuring.”

Mano takes a completely holistic approach and will also advise against any intervention if he thinks none are necessary and instead will offer advice on prevention, nutrition and simple lifestyle measures.

“I will happily turn a patient away if I don’t think a certain treatment is appropriate,” he says.

As a clinician Mano looks at the patient’s overall health during an initial consultation: “By understanding a patient’s lifestyle and general health enables me to find any underlying problems and I think that’s important. I will also offer my advice on what procedure I consider is the best solution.

“We always try to offer a non-surgical option with the least risk and shortest recovery time. We treat each client with an individual approach taking account their facial appearance and character.

“We hope to build long term relationships so we can support them on their journey to maintain a healthy, natural appearance.”

Mano’s practice is centred wholly on his patients’ wellbeing. His approach is one of meticulous care tailored to each individual’s needs, taking the time to listen, explain and advise on the most appropriate course of treatment based on medical evidence.

Consultations with Mano, for private medical procedures and aesthetic treatments at the Eye Lid Clinic are conducted specifically in a private hospital setting with fully trained medical staff to ensure the patient receives treatment that is Care Quality Commission approved.

Mano has also introduced shorter online video clinics for those who are new to private practice and would like a brief initial chat, those with very specific questions that require a specialist opinion, if they are time restrained, live remotely or unable to get to the hospital clinic easily or for any patient who prefers to talk to him from the privacy and comfort of their own home.
