THE PERFECT FIT

FROM HEAD TO TOE

As a former primary school teacher, Selma Roscoe-Jenkinson was used to dealing with children, but when it came to shopping for her own kids, the experience was anything but therapeutic.

Travelling from Tarleton into Preston or Southport was bad enough, never mind having to flit from shop to shop to find shoes for each child, traipsing around separate stores for clothing, interspersed with trips to badly located changing facilities. It’s enough to test any parent’s patience.

Selma knew the sort of experience she wanted as a parent, so she decided to create it herself. In August last year, Geoffrey & Joy opened its doors.

Located in Tarleton’s courtyard, Selma has created a one-stop shop for parents who are looking for a fuss-free alternative to shopping for their kids. The airy store is chock full of shoes from pre-walkers up to adult size 8, as well an extensive choice of clothing to suit any occasion, from soft sleepsuits for newborns to casual clothes and occasion-wear for children up to age 10. Because the team at Geoffrey & Joy realise the extra pressures that come with shopping for children, the shop also offers up a play area as well as baby changing/feeding facilities.

When it comes to choice, Geoffrey & Joy has quantity off to a fine art, but what about quality? As well as choosing the best brands to suit every budget, Selma’s keen to point out the obvious health benefits when it comes to your child’s shoes. “The bones in a child’s foot aren’t fully developed until they’re 18,” explains Selma. “All of our staff are trained in accordance with the society of shoe fitters to give your children the best possible start.”

As Geoffrey & Joy approaches its first year anniversary, it’s clear that Selma and her team know all about making a good start. The shop’s friendly, personal experience is something that has earned them and their Tarleton shop a slew of five-star ratings. For parents looking for a one-stop shop when buying for their kids, Tarleton’s Geoffrey & Joy has proven itself as the perfect fit.
