There’s a New Sheriff in Town!

Edwin Booth CBE DL has been appointed High Sheriff of Lancashire. We offer our congratulations to Edwin on his appointment by Her Majesty the Queen to the office of High Sheriff of Lancashire for 2021-2022

Mr Booth is the Chairman and CEO of Booths which has its headquarters in Preston. Having recently been sworn into the role Mr Booth stated that he would be focusing his efforts in the year-long appointment in three key areas: crime, homelessness and education.

The role itself is a non-political role offering support to the Crown and the judiciary alongside crime prevention agencies, emergency services and the voluntary sector. He is no stranger to the role having been Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire since 2005.

Upon his appointment Mr Booth said: “It is a privilege to be recognised for this role and I want to celebrate everything that is good about Lancashire, a county my family has called home for nearly 200 years. There is a great deal of opportunity in Lancashire, and it is my wish to give others the same inspiration and chance to succeed that I have been fortunate to receive.”

Many of the issues Mr Booth is looking to tackle are linked to ever increasing poverty in the region with more reliance on food banks and other welfare resources than ever before. The pandemic has escalated these problems but also brought to light many social and economic issues the county needs to tackle head on. Many of these vital resources are currently operated by charitable organisations with very little funding and often rely on the kindness of their volunteers. Hopefully with the help of Mr Booth and his local knowledge and influence, he can make a real difference to Lancashire during his time in office.

We are hoping to sit down with Mr Booth over the coming months and we would like to put your questions to him about what action he intends to take and what the plan is going forward. What changes would you like to see in your area? Do you and your children have access to the right education and support systems for your needs? Is rising crime and anti-social behaviour an issue in your community? Let us know and we’ll put your questions directly to the High Sheriff.
