Huge investment in Ski Rossendale is taking it to a new level – making it one of the UK’s leading outdoor ski and snowboarding facilities.

Funding for the new £630,000 alpine sports academy has come from Sport England’s ‘improved facilities’ provision along with other supporting investment which has seen the creation of a new beginners slope, with new changing facilities and a café bistro planned for next year. Ski Rossendale is to remain open throughout the work – with no disruption to skiers and snowboarders.

Phase 1: NOW OPEN – A new 60m beginners and improvers slope with travellator uplift and state-of-the-art Snowflex sprung matting, giving beginners an ultimately safe and enjoyable learning experience so they are able to reach a level of competency to transfer to the 200m main slope.

Phase 2 – An Alpine style café and bistro, conference room and new equipment hire and changing facility with building work starting in April 2017. The new two-storey building, which will replace the current ski hire chalet, will see changing rooms, showers, a new ski hire area with a bistro on the second floor with outdoor viewing terrace over the ski slopes. It is expected that Phase 2 will be complete in November 2017 in time for the ski season.

Also in the pipeline is the development of an elite training facility for GB Park and Pipe to train potential 2018 winter Olympians.

David Fuller, Head of Snow Sport at Ski Rossendale and a tutor for Snow Sport England, has been leading the bid to transform Ski Rossendale: “We are thrilled with the new beginners and improvers slope and feel we really have something to be proud of here. When all the work is finished next year it is going to be the best in the country in terms of learning as we have a great Alpine Sports Academy with excellent, qualified coaches.

“Because we operate as a community facility that promotes Sport England’s ethos of encouraging the community to engage in sport, people get great value. Our prices are low for what is a high quality experience whether people are beginners or experienced skiers. We are very much a family friendly ski slope.”
