Each sink from the Whitebirk Sink Company is hand-finished by a team of talented artisans and master craftsmen at the company’s headquarters in Whitebirk, Blackburn.
The Whitebirk Sink Company is the only British owned company making hand-made, fireclay sinks, which are individually cast into a mould, dried for up to two weeks, then glazed and fired in one of two state-of-the-art kilns.
The collection ranges from modern circular sinks to traditional farmhouse sinks with softly rounded edges – but it is the stunning custom finish that makes each unique.
“The glazing process is complex,” explains the company’s sales director Jon Wilson, who founded the company with fellow director Steve Allen.
“The colours we use are quite complex and the effect we achieve with the mottled sink is all down to the mix of oxides. For example the green and blue are as a result of adding copper and magnesium oxide while a titanium coating pulls the more dominant colour to the surface.”
