A Showstopper!

Westholme students took to the stage recently to present the much-loved musical Les Misérables

Over 2,000 guests were blown away by a showstopping performance of Les Misérables, performed by Westholme students.

The school has since been shortlisted for Best Production in the National School Theatre Awards with students Bill, Grace, Lily and Emilia nominated in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories.

Epic, grand and uplifting – the production ran across five nights and saw talented Performing Arts students take to the stage in Westholme’s very own state-of-the-art Croston Theatre.

Organised by Director of Performing Arts, Mrs Holland and her team, Les Misérables School Edition was carefully created to retain the grandeur, raw emotion and impact of the critically acclaimed West End sensation. The much-loved musical has been adapted from the original historical novel written by Victor Hugo in 1862.

Set in early 19th century France, the cast played out Jean Valjean’s story to perfection, bringing his story of redemption to life.

Throughout the week audiences were wowed with the spectacular sets, characters and songs that were performed.

Visiting schools from the area were treated to an exclusive matinee performance. Needless to say guests were impressed by the level of talent that was on show – and it was a great opportunity for the cast to prepare for the main event in the evening.

Westholme School also held a special reception for VIP guests before the Thursday production, with delicious canapes and drinks laid out in the INSPIRED Sixth Form common room by catering partner Thomas Franks before guests were taken through to the theatre.

The live band in the orchestra pit, led by Director of Music Mr Holt, supported the cast brilliantly throughout – and it was great to see some Old Westholmians coming back to help out as well!

A school spokesperson said: “We wanted to congratulate once again our incredible casts, orchestra, backstage crew and everyone behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to bring Les Misérables to the Croston Theatre stage. It was five nights of pure magic.

“The Performing Arts students rehearsed tirelessly, and we were so excited to see them shine on the Croston Theatre stage in one of the greatest musicals of all time!”

Westholme School offers unrivalled holistic excellence. The school strives for academic rigour as well as developing each individual and enabling them to pursue their full potential.
