A Staycation Day Out To Blackpool

Here in Lancashire, we are blessed to have the seaside on our doorstep. Quite literally for some areas of the county. Many of us forget that we also have some of the country’s top tourist attractions locally in Blackpool. And some of the best old-school fun days out to be had. When was the last time you took a stroll along the prom?

With the sun shining in Lancashire, we headed out with the contents of our 2 pence coin collection jar for a family day trip to Blackpool.

Blackpool pretty much has something for everyone. There’s the Pleasure Beach for the thrill seekers. The Piers for the traditionalists who enjoy a walk along those old wooden planks or a cabaret show. Or the various attractions to be had going up Blackpool Tower, the SeaLife Centre or Madam Tussauds Wax Works Museum.

We decided to keep things old-school and after a stroll along the Prom and a walk up and down the North Pier, along with the customary ice cream, we headed into the arcades to spend our hard saved 2 pence pieces.

There is something very captivating about repeatedly pushing pennies into a slot machine, to watch them drop down the levels in the hope of winning more pennies. Or even win a few other random bits and bobs that are carefully positioned within the machines. If your bucket of copper is big enough you could spend hours in these places going through several adrenaline surges in the process.

But with the copper bucket spent we decided it was time for food and what is more Blackpool than a trip to Harry Ramsdens for fish and chips. Or a fish burger in my case, which was delicious by the way. My companions all opted for the traditional fish and chips and we all left very happy and suitably fed.

Naturally we had to stop off at a rock shop for some sweet treats before heading home.

If you are staying on into the evening in Blackpool and looking for a nice evening meal or entertainment, then I can highly recommend The Viva Blackpool Experience. We have watched the Viva Voulez Vous Show on a previous visit and it was fabulous. Especially if you’re an Abba fan.

I would also highly recommend the Beach House Bistro and Bar for a great dining experience, with lovely views and even better food.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!
