Blind Visions

Every window deserves to be beautifully dressed and this Preston company is more than committed to the cause, writes Kate Ford

As building styles develop and fashions in interior design change, so do the ways in which we dress our windows. The days of just drawing the curtains are gone, and people are turning to blinds and shutters to control light, create privacy and add colour to their living spaces.

From the simplicity of roller and roman blinds to the contemporary style of venetians and shutters, there is something to suit every room. Being able to choose the right colour or fabric design to match your room means that blinds and shutters can be just as much a part of your décor as your floor covering and furniture.

“I think it’s the versatility of blinds and shutters that really appeal to people,” says Ian Leather, owner of Hannan Blinds in Fulwood. “Whatever style of house, traditional or modern, we will have a window covering not just to suit it, but to create a real statement.”

A well-established business with a history of almost 50 years, Hannan Blinds was started in 1972 by John Hannan and Ian joined him in 1999. When John retired in 2007, Ian bought the business from him and, from their busy showroom on Garstang Road, he and his team help customers from the Preston area and beyond to transform their rooms with stylish, made-to-measure window accessories.

There’s a dazzling display of choice on offer in the showroom where customers can browse fabrics and, more importantly, see the range of options available. “Blinds have changed so much in recent years, with venetians, shutters and the fabulously inventive ‘day and night’ blinds really increasing in popularity,” says Ian.

“And, just as building trends change, so do our products, so we can always find a solution for any window or glass door in your home.”

One example of this is the increasing use of bi-fold doors in buildings and home extensions. Hannan Blinds has the ideal solution in its ‘Perfect Fit’ blinds which sit seamlessly over the glass panels in a made-to-measure frame. The same product is also used to cover conservatory windows and roofs.

Ian and team are happy to visit customers in their homes to advise and talk through the product range, and customers are welcome to visit the showroom at any time to talk through their requirements. Once they’ve made their choice, the measuring and installation service is included in the cost.

“Jenny and Kim in the showroom are both very knowledgeable about our product range, so whether a customer wants to dress a single window or a whole house, they’ll be able to give friendly, expert advice,” says Ian.

“We supply high quality products which are manufactured to last up to 20 years. I think I can say without hesitation that our customers will absolutely love the look of their windows which are dressed with our shutters and blinds.”
