Brush Off The Cobwebs!

After a hard day’s work on cold winter days we tend to do minimal housework – but now that spring is here it’s time for a proper deep clean, writes Christine Walker

I think we can all agree that it has been a long cold winter and inevitably dirt and salt from the roads and pavements are dragged into our homes on our feet, clothes and of course our pets. While our carpets may take the brunt curtains too can be affected by damp air and dust. As the wind blows grime through the smallest gap, our homes can look altogether as weary as we feel.

However, as the days lengthen and we start to get warmer the urge to get our house in order gets stronger. Whether this stems from an instinct to come out of hibernation and nest-build like the birds and animals around us, I’m not sure, but I for one certainly look forward to getting my home a thorough spring clean.

These days it’s not just about the home, we are a nation of garden lovers too and like to have our gardens looking spick and span. The fences and shed may need a repair and some preservative, the paving will need a power-wash, and of course we need to think about the pots and hanging baskets as next month these will need to be filled.

Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing a magnificent basket of flowers in full-bloom at the height of summer but of course they need planting early.

And then let us not forget the car! All winter they carry us to and from work, to the shops and on outings. They take a lot of abuse especially if you have small children that like to eat their take-away in the back seats. Yes, the upholstery in our beloved vehicles will be crying out for some TLC too!

Suddenly we have such a lot to do but fortunately for us there are a multitude of appliances around to assist us in everything that needs doing, from the latest cordless vacuum to gadgets that spray paint the fences.

However, nothing comes close to having someone do it for you or at least some of it and there are plenty of independent businesses you can turn to for help. From gardeners to domestic and commercial cleaners, they are all there waiting for your call and can’t wait to get stuck in!
