CHARITY FOCUS

Live Ribble Valley takes a look at the many and varied charity projects that are taking place in towns and villages across the region

CHARITY CALENDAR
A charity calendar using images of the Ribble Valley is to be sold to raise funds for the Alzheimers Society and the National Brain Appeal, which funds research into dementia and other neurological conditions. Behind the project is John Fagan, who lost his wife, Margaret, last year after suffering from a rare and debilitating form of dementia called Benson’s Syndrome. John is a keen photographer and has some lovely images of the Ribble Valley taken through the seasons, which are featured in the calendar, which is on sale at Melt, Shackletons Home & Garden and Bashall Barn, priced at £10.

CHEQUE PRESENTATION
Customers of a fast-growing Blackburn motor group are playing their part in a worthy charity fundraiser, simply by driving their new car away. The Hippo Motor Group, also recognised as Hippo Leasing in Trident Park, has pledged to donate to the local childhood cancer charity, Petal, for every vehicle sold and were delighted to present them with a cheque for £2,744. Managing Director, Tom Preston, said: “We make a conscious effort every year to select one, or numerous local, national and even international charities to support.”

YOUNG VOLUNTEERS
This season for the first time ever Bamber Bridge Football Club is supporting a local charity at every home match providing opportunities for children at high school to be Young Volunteers at the matches. Football club committee member John Gibson, who is spearheading the campaign, served in HM Forces for 30 years then worked in sport nationally. He says it’s important for children to be provided with volunteering opportunities: “It’s good to have on their CVs before leaving school and shows that they have given up their time to help others.”
