Live Ribble Valley takes a look at a forthcoming charity event that is always incredibly popular and well supported

CHRISTMAS TRACTOR RUN

Clitheroe Young Farmers’ Club are once again holding their spectacular annual Christmas Tractor Run on Sunday 17th December.

The event involves over 130 tractors decorated in festive lights convoying around Ribble Valley villages.

Clitheroe YFC is a youth charity that is open to people aged between 10 and 28 – it holds weekly meetings, learning new skills and discovering all things farming and country!

This year’s tractor run will raise funds for both Clitheroe YFC and Sepsis UK – which is their chosen charity for the year.

The tractor run will start from the outskirts of Chatburn at 6.30pm and make its way around Clitheroe and the surrounding villages. Please keep an eye on the Clitheroe YFC Facebook page for route updates and timings and ways to get involved.

Led by young people, for young people, Young Farmers’ Clubs are voluntary organisations providing opportunities to meet lifelong friends and make a difference to their local community.

Historically, the clubs were originally formed to provide a type of agricultural apprenticeship, focusing on the keeping and growing of living things including cows, sheep, pigs, poultry, bees, crops and plants.

The formation of the clubs in Lancashire dates back to the 1920s. With the number of clubs growing rapidly, the County Federation was formed in 1938, just before World War II, as a way of bringing the clubs together and there are now 17 local Young Farmers’ Clubs across five regions, providing opportunities for over 700 young people.
