EXPLORE ATLANTIC CANADA

Located on Canada’s east coast, the provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island boast Canada’s most spectacular and pristine coastline

On Canada’s east coast you’ll find lush vistas and uncrowded beaches, breath-taking scenery and a vibrant and welcoming culture that will ensure you feel like a local in no time.

New Brunswick
New Brunswick offers visitors a considerable number of outdoor activities including hiking, whale watching, bird watching, kayaking and mountain biking. It is also home to a robust array of festivals and cultural events, along with a plethora of museums and art galleries.

Visit the Bay of Fundy, where a staggering 160 billion tonnes of seawater flows in and out twice a day. An excellent spot to experience the bay’s tides is Hopewell Rocks, featuring the world’s highest tides. At high tide, visitors can kayak off the coast and as the tide shifts and the sea recedes, you can walk along the ocean floor to see its uniquely shaped rock formations carved by the power of the tides. During summer and fall, 12 species of whales come to feed in the bay’s waters.

A trip to New Brunswick wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the riverfront city of Fredericton, New Brunswick’s capital city and home to the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, which houses 3,000 works of art from the Elizabethan era to the 20th century. Or explore charming Saint Andrews, a historical haven for wealthy New Yorkers and Bostonians. The charm that brought visitors there more than 100 years ago is still evident today.

Newfoundland & Labrador
Warm-hearted locals, beautiful landscapes, rare wildlife and rich history await you in Newfoundland and Labrador. This province is quickly becoming increasingly popular with travellers – and it’s easy to see why.

St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador’s capital city, is the perfect combination of big-city luxury and small-town charm. Wander down the narrow, crisscrossing streets past colourful jellybean row houses toward the waterfront, then hike up nearby Signal Hill National Historic Site through the famous Battery, where tiny wooden homes still cling valiantly to cliffsides ravaged by ocean waves.

Head to Gros Morne National Park UNESCO World Heritage Site for walks and hikes amongst a huge expanse of hauntingly beautiful natural scenery. For something different, visit the pretty town of Bonavista. Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot) first landed in the Americas in 1497, and it’s believed that Bonavista is the spot where the Italian explorer disembarked. The town takes its name from Caboto’s exclamation of: “O buono vista!” (Oh happy sight!) when he first saw the beautiful coastline. The area is a wonderful place for wildlife-watching, with puffin nesting grounds found nearby the lighthouse, as well as whales, seabirds and icebergs often visible from the shoreline.

Nova Scotia
There really is so much to do and see in Nova Scotia – experience the awe of the world’s highest tides along the Bay of Fundy. Catch your breath as a whale surfaces right in front of you. Explore the bustling seaport capital of Halifax. Discover Old Town Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See breath-taking autumn foliage and feel the freedom of the open road as you tour the spectacular Cabot Trail. Visit the quaint fishing community of Peggy’s Cove and see its world-famous lighthouse. Celebrate the rich culture through a diverse tapestry of Celtic traditions, fine art and great music – the list goes on.

It’s a world of natural beauty and sensational wine and seafood – from Atlantic salmon and fresh-caught lobster to succulent Digby scallops. Take a winery tour and sample local award-winning vintages at one of 20+ provincial wineries, including Tidal Bay, Nova Scotia’s signature wine collection. Visitors can explore the province through an array of culinary tourism experiences such as the Chowder Trail.

Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island has welcomed visitors of all ages for many years, creating authentic island experiences for everyone to enjoy. The impressive coastline offers some of the most stunning vistas in the world. Further inland, rolling green hills and scenic farmland will keep your cameras busy. The tremendous local cuisine, including some of the freshest seafood available anywhere in the world, will make your mouth water for more. And if golf’s your game, Prince Edward Island has courses to suit all skill levels and budgets including several courses considered among the best in Canada.

Prince Edward Island’s irregular shape and many bays and inlets allow for communities with unique character and secret treasures tucked away quietly awaiting discovery. The island is also the setting of the tales of Anne in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s world-famous book ‘Anne of Green Gables’. However, Green Gables Shore is more than just a setting for a book and has more beauty and mystique up its sleeve. The region is a spectacular piece of the island’s acclaimed scenic landscape, composed of red sandstone cliffs, white sand beaches and rolling farm fields.
