JOINING FORCES

Live Ribble Valley and Highclere Thoroughbred Racing are delighted to announce a brand new initiative!

In a first for both Live Ribble Valley and Highclere, we are going to join forces to have a racehorse in training for the 2020 and 2021 flat seasons.

Following on from Highclere’s success with their existing syndicates, we will have our horse with the most successful trainer in British racing history, Mark Johnston. Based at Middleham (only 47 miles from Clitheroe) Mark’s Kingsley Park stables are extremely welcoming and impressive. He encourages owners to get involved so the plan is to have regular visits to the stables to see our horse and have breakfast with the master trainer.

We are going to ask Mark to buy our horse too. He has a team, including himself and his son Charlie who attend most major horse sales in Europe and the USA. They are known to be extremely shrewd. With top yearlings fetching crazy amounts we are looking for value, but Mark will have a good budget.

The intention is to form a Live Ribble Valley syndicate made up of 20 shares. Each share will cost £7k covering the cost of buying the horse plus training expenses and fees for 2020. We are looking to buy a two-year-old with the aim of winning races in the north of England (initial targets will be York and Chester). The syndicate continues into 2021 for our horse’s three year career.

We have had plenty of enquiries from Live Ribble Valley readers with regard to buying into Highclere syndicates (and many have done so) but some want their co-owners to be friends. We will have a regular page in Live Ribble Valley magazine so everyone can follow the horse’s progress.

Visiting the winners enclosure is an amazing thrill and to do so with fellow Ribble Valley owners will be even better!

Here are more details:
1. The syndicate will not come into operation until we have an expression of interest for all 20 shares.
2. No payments need to be made until the syndicate comes into operation.
3. Shares will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
4. All enquiries to Tedd Walmsley or Jason Fildes (details below).
5. The horse will go into training at the start of December 2019 and will run on the flat in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
6. Fees: 2020 £7k plus VAT (reclaimable) for purchase of horse and first year training fees. 2021 £4.5k plus VAT (reclaimable) for second year.
7. Included in the cost of each share are all expenses for the horse (training fees, entry fees, vet’s bills, transport). It also includes all owner’s costs at the racecourse (car park passes, owner’s badges and lunch in the owner’s and trainer’s restaurant).
8. Highclere Thoroughbred Racing will manage the syndicate. They have been offering this service to owners for over 25 years (see website).
9. Each owner will receive a share certificate and ownership documents. All prize money won by our horse is divided equally between the shareholders
10. At the end of the 2021 season the options are:
a. We sell the horse and the proceeds are divided equally by the shareholders.
b. The horse stays in training and a further cost is incurred for the 2022 season.
c. The horse is retired to stud and proceeds divided by the shareholders.
